I think that code may work...
very early stages of design work, to be used for the company branded leather goods - high end leather womens bags etc.
I was a family crest type design - 'roughed up' - it will be used in print and used to emboss the logo directly into the leather so has to be outline style. Is it too masculine - does the font need to be gothic? will the script fonts work? Any sugestions for the interior of the shield I was thinking braying horse, but it ended up too ferrari... hmmmm

I think you should start off sketching out some ideas. These look like you got on the computer and started fiddling around with fonts. There are some threads here that show wonderful progressions of logo designs from basic sketches to finished concept. Do a search and I'm sure you'll easily find them.
What happened to your legs?

needs work. the font's don't really do anything for me. maybe something not so light and script like. you might lose some detail while embossing the logo onto the bag if it isn't thick enough. are you going to put something in the crest or just leave it empty?

I've played on paper... I like to bash out a bunch of ideas first... but I know what you mean it doesnt look 'right'.
Inside the shield I had tried a horse, but it looked too much like the Ferrari badge -
I personally just don't like gothic scripts... not sure if that is putting me off plus I dont seem to have any nice ones either :( where did all my fonts go? That's why I moved towards script.. hmmm... drawing board back to me thinks...
EDIT: My legs are still here - fully functional if slightly stubby.

I looked up some of their bags online and I can't really see a crest working on the bag itself. I know they are a UK designer based on what I looked up if it is the correct company. They also use rabbit, camel, and other exotic leathers so I would try to maybe focus on something a bit more exotic or something that plays that up because I feel like I have seen the crest before and I can't see something like that on handbags of this calibar.
Maybe ask the company for how they got started to get some inspiration or something like that.

Oh perhaps I should clarify the situation... I am the owner of the company, I set it up a number of years ago - I have run it whilst freelancing for various other firms, so this is a brand update...
I know what you mean with regards to having seen the crest idea before... but it is so quintessentially English.... I'll have a scratch around and get some other totally different solutions drawn up... Free reign!!!

I've just checked out the bags, too. And I agree that the crest idea won't work. Not with those colours, anyway.
If it was me I'd be looking to do something with the initials of the company.

I do agree that it is quintessentially English. However what market are you trying to go after with your bags, I think they are wonderful and would be best fitted in the higher fashion market, which is where I don't think this would work.
That being said although Prada originated in Italy I think that their logo, which is very diverse, but is more centered around the name of the company may be a good place to get some inspiration.
Granted they have been around for what seems like forever, but if you look at a few pieces they will have the logo surrounded by their logo circle or with the letters and a small insignia below the name without the circle. Anyways I think they take pieces of what it is trying to portray without having to use an all emcompassing one piece all the time. The beauty of their logo is the simplicity and how it can stand alone or within their known circle. This gives them diversity, especially in putting it on their bags. Take a look at a few of them online and see how they use it depending on the bag design and it is never confusing. Maybe a place to start for inspiration, just a thought.
Good luck and post any new pieces you come up with, I would love to see them!

well a couple of weeks later, and I return from my travels... I had good old sit down and I have started working in this direction... the only issue is that 1-4 remind me of something else... I like their retro feel... this project still has a fair few weeks left to run... all comments welcome... cheers.

I really love the first four, I am especially drawn to 3 & 4. I think you are certainly more on target with the market I believe your bags would be fantastic in and I think if you make some minor changes to the lettering to be more uniform and something that works within all the scenarios, which would allow you some more diversity or the ability to make them stand alone as well as inside the designs in the long run.
I think that they are retro, but in an updated way. I like it a lot and I think it will go well. I have some experience developing marketing and public relations plans for high fashion lines so if you need any help in that area please feel free to email.
I definitely really think these new logos will work a lot better.

Thanks for the comments CreatedD. I shall definatly be getting intouch in the near future.
Does anyone have any hard crit? I have used the TW Cen MT font as the typeface for over a year now, I feel it does work... although here it does need balancing out somewhat...
Does anyone think that swirls and the like as above are a tad 'over done' that is one of my concerns... Hence quite liking the 5 and 6's art deco feel...

I think the text gets lost inside the big swirlies. I think it is the a definite start and the direction you should take the product but its needs more strength. Perhaps something to make it look worn in a bit. Some sort of text or similiar them. Check out luck brand jeans. I love how they do their mark. Make just work in some details and put in a contempory 2 color scheme. Pastels are hot right now. Its the start you need i think.
I think 5 and 6 are weak and don't care for them in anyway

Pastels are hot right now.
for branding a company you don't want to do what's hot because it won't be hot in 2 years and you are stuck with an dated logo.
these logos don't really portray a leather company to me. i would try a thick font with a serif for this. when i think leather i think western, cowboys, horses, and stuff like that. the font you chose seems to modern for this imo.

While I agree with you on the fonts I do feel that a good logo can be created for a brand and then be used in a variety of ways to keep in touch with current trends.

I see where you are coming from - with regards to colour I dont have a problem, the logo can be in any colour swapped and changed... thats not an issue really - although when I get a bit further with this project I probably will ask for opinions.
When I say its for a leather company, its for womens handbags etc etc.. fashion goods... not the type I think you have in your head...
I'm bashing a few things about now.. I shall put something up in the hour.

Right I have had a play... I am actually starting to like this - which is unusual for me... The font is not right - with the words not being equal length the ampersand is being thrown off - should I increase the tracking on the first word to bring it across???... and recommendations for font - I'm not usually a serif person, but I think it works here!!! Any crit.. please say if you think the whole thing is £$%^ and needs to go back to drawing board...
here we go...

well the first thing i see when i look at this is someone squatting/ sitting on the toilet dropping a heart shaped poo :D as for the ampersand you could try making it larger than the rest of the text and maybe have cora up high to the left and spink lower to the right so it won't look as off center? or you could try stacking them. i def like the serif font is better though keep at it =]

I am digging it but i think the name should be bigger and bolder. It still gets lost inside the swirls. the swirlie parts might need to be smaller in relation to the name. Also and some cut out or lines inside the swirlie thing to give it a bit more dimension. its really coming together.

I think the text should flow a lot more, it looks pretty stale just sitting on a straight line in comparison with the flourishes around it. Maybe try raising the Cora and lowering the Sprink and playing with the ampersand in the middle to help balance it
also, i don't like the star, but I like the idea of something being there

OK... well I had to stop with this as it was just starting to go so far from what it started out; a luxury I know, isnt good working for yourself on long projects... I'll show whats been done tomorrow... might realise some onto actual designs... but maybe not... the hangover may kick in lol...
