PDF problems photos don't appear

I'm creating layouts in Quark 6.0, running OSX on a G5. SOMETIMES (only sometimes) when I make a PDF from quark SOME of my images do not appear in my PDF. I am making the PDf by going to file, to export, to layout as PDF. When the next window comes up I have click options at the bottom right and I think am setting everything correctly there.

I cannot figure out why some photos appear in the pdf and some don't. On the ones that don't appear, I can use the advanced editing tools and click on where the photo box should be. An empty highlight frame appears, but still no image inside. I also can't figure out why some of my PDFs have this problem and some PDFs are fine.

One other note, I never have a problem with photos disappearing in my PDF if I create the PDF by going to the print window, click printer in bottom left area, set settings, click save and back at the print window click print. It seems like if there was something wrong with certain images they wouldn't PDF at all. Creating the PDF in this manner takes an unrealistic length of time though...like an hour...or 2 hours for a very hefty file (in particular, a 12pg brochure I'm doing with support files collectively equaling about 400 megs).

Any ideas. (Oh...yes I've re-installed Quark. No help)

I don't know? You could try to export as EPS all the pages then open them in Illustrator and create a PDF out of all of them then in Acrobat piece them together. I know this will take a long as time but I don't know why your getting these problems and for now you could use this method to solve it.

Not sure why the pictures aren't working, but I've had the best luck in my experiences making PDFs using Distller. Don't know why, but it just seems to work better.

The G5 you're using isn't the 1.6Ghz with 256mb? Because it sounds to me like it's a memory problem. Try closing all your other applications when you create the PDF, this should free up some RAM. And if your computer only has 256mb of memory, then it's worth getting some more RAM, especially if you're working on large 12pp files.
