my problem is this, I'm working under a tight deadline to get an ad put together for a client, but the file's their logo designer has provided me with are CS3 eps and as such won't open in my CS (I haven't found the money to upgrade yet). I've already used my 30 day cs3 trial and so I can't think of any solution other than wiping my whole computer and reinstalling windows and so (maybe) being able to run another 30 day trial. I've emailed the logo designer to ask him to down-save the files for me but I'm thinking this won't be a priority for him.

I really can't face destroying my computer for one project. Does anyone know of a workaround I can try?

Do you have the full version of Acrobat and Acrobat Distiller? You could try using Distiller to make a PDF of the EPS file, and then try opening the PDF in your version of Illustrator.

Along the same lines as what Urstwile said, if you have quark you can place the EPS then save the quark file as an EPS and open that one in Illustrator.

If you don't have distiller or Quark you could place the eps in CS and export it as a eps and open it in illy.........it think.

nope I don't have distiller. I can open the eps in photoshop cs but obviously then it appears as a flat image. I managed to instal a bare bones illustrator cs3 trial onto my old computer last night (it only has roughly 400mb RAM) so I'm now trying the very slow process of opening the eps's in that and trying to down-save from there. It's taken it 15 minutes to load up illustrator thought, well here goes.

^^"flat image" is why you should try to open it in illustrator; PS will rasterize the eps on opening it, thus flattening the file and rendering it a bitmap image instead of a vector image. the guys above have got it right. that's probably the best way to get around the version problem.

mojo-I know, that's why I was looking for a way to get it open in illustrator. All good now though, managed to open and down-save them on my old computer, a slow process but it worked.
