Every now and then, when it's raining here and my usual coffee cart gal isn't open, I'll go into Starbucks, and it's completely amazing to me some of the drinks people order for their morning Joe. I'm pretty basic, just a house cuppa with some room for milk. I hear the craziest stuff: "no whip, no foam, caramel soy macchiato" is my all time favorite. What in the hell is the point?

I have yet to tell them "I just want a ****ing coffee," but it's only a matter of time. Low caffeine levels make Hewligan cranky ;)

When I went to Australia a few months ago, I learned to love the Long Black...by necessity. If you filmed me during my first visit to an Australian Starbucks (in Sydney Airport, before I met my girlfriend in Perth), you could have put the footage on YouTube with the title, "Confused American Considers Ordering Coffee, But Runs Away."

I was a barista for Second Cup and a few independent coffee shops around Vancouver while attending college...
watching that clip was extremely satisfying. Thank you urstwile!

I just die at some of the names and complex orders I hear. Just give me coffee with cream and sugar and I'm happy. I don't need a half-double-decaffeinated half-caf venti double whip triple toe loop with a splash of peppermint.

Too much caffeine makes Buda psycho. It's best I stick to my daily cup of tea.

First time I went into a Starbucks I ordered what I thought I wanted. And I got a triple espresso with amaretto syrup in it. I didn't go back for five years.
One quiet Saturday night I came across a Web site that explains all the variations at Starbucks, and I decided what I was really trying to order was a caramel macchiato. That's all I order to this day. No doubles, no halfs and no soy. And only about once a month.
Their apple fritters are amazing.
The video was hilarious, BTW...

I have no idea what one of those is, but it doesn't sound like coffee to me :(

The way the Web site explained it, a latte is mostly steamed milk with some espresso in it; a macchiato is mostly espresso with some steamed milk in it. Mine have caramel syrup in them and foam on top. With a little cinnamon sprinkled on.
I normally just drink plain black coffee.

I haven't been to Starbucks in years but if I did I would just order whatever equivalent they have of a flat white. Except if it was summer I might get some kind of iced coffee as a treat. But probably not.

The Starbucks equivalent of a flat white is, fortunately, a flat white.
Since the flat white is basically an Aus/NZ thing, the US marketing department never got around to making some crazy pseudo Italian name for it. Yay for being antipodean!

Okay, so what's a flat white?
The one thing I do like at Starbucks is their egg salad sandwiches.

Yeah, I guess it is a latte, only stronger and smaller.

Well ... just as I wear it as a badge of honor that I have never had a Krispy Kreme - I have only ever had one cup of starbucks coffee ... It was small and didn't taste that great .. it was something with caramel in it and cost me nearly 4 bucks about 5 years ago. I really don't feel like I am missing out on anything.
(as I sit here drinking my Dunkin Donuts coffee with french vanilla creamer that I made all by myself from their coffee beans)

I'm not fond of their coffee, but I do kinda like frappuccinos in summer...

Mmmmm...starbucks. Damnit, now I wanna run away but I can't. I'm a fan of the simple Hazelnut Latte, or the Cinnamon Dolce Latte. nothing complicated. nothing long, but oh so very good. And their chicken bruscheta sammiches are super good too!

The last time I had starbucks was in The Forbidden City in Beijing. The historic site is about 600 years old and Starbucks there just felt so wrong. With nothing else to eat within The Forbidden City we got some hugely overpriced sandwhiches. It was far too hot for coffee so we stuck with our water.
Funny that Beijing was also the last time I ate McDonalds.
I guess it was a weird novelty.
