These aren't as good as some of the shots that are posted here, but I figured I'd show them anyway since I haven't posted any pictures in a while.

Last night MyST and I went for a short bike ride, and I happened to have my little P&S camera in the back pocket of my bike jersey (while I don't like to stop in the middle of a workout, I do carry it on the off chance that we see something neat and want to take a picture). Well, in the little swampy area near the park I caught a strange silhouette out of the corner of my eye and stopped fast to see if it was actually what I thought that it was....

This is a "green heron". Isn't he cute? Personally, I think that he looks like a chicken from outer space. I didn't notice his ship in the swamp, but I am sure that he had hidden it well so that no one could make off with it while he was fishing.

Love it! Great spontaneous photo! :) Wish I had my compact digi w/ me. I saw a GOOSE in a TREE this morning while on my way to work! Couldn't figure that one out...but it would have been a great photo opp!

thanks DV. I've never seen a goose in a tree. Maybe he was pretending to be a pear.

And thanks, Virgo! I'm taking it slow with the bike and holding up pretty well. I'm trying to ease back into things now that I'm feeling a little better. It's nice to be missed. :)

Kittie! I had no idea that you spoke Can-dadian! :D ;)

The weather has been nice this week, so I had to get outside for a bit or risk going stir crazy. It turns out that it has started raining today and is set to pour all weekend, so I'm glad I got out when I did!

Or hiding...i think chicago is doing terrible things to geese right now...heard something briefly about it on the radio this morning....

but my gosh, geese are not suppose to be in trees, I cannot even imagine how it would land...since it needs a sort of "runway" to land, and has those webbed feet! So bizzare to me!

Anyways glad your feelin' better! I too need to get my butt out on my bike! Still a tad chilly after work tho for me. I can't wait for the hot summer sun!

I really like these photos. It looks like photos that you'd find in the National Geographic magazines.. very nice!

His neck in the first 2 pics doesn't look as if it would stretch to pic 3. That's impressive :)

Nice shots!

It's funny... just after morea told me it was a Green Heron, a jogger stopped to look then walked up to me and asked, "C'est un heron vert?".

I still can't believe she managed to see it because it was standing between two rather large bushes and we were riding at a pretty good pace (hence the 8 foot [no kidding] skid mark left by morea's rear tire).:D

I gave a quick hand signal that I was going to stop, left a nice strip of black rubber on the pavement and reached immediately for my camera while shoving poor Zem at MyST (who was more than a little confused by my behavior) saying "Take the bike! Take the bike!" :D

Mo, these are awesome...and with a p&s :D ***bows***

I love how the water reflects the surroundings. I've yet to get a decent pic of a green heron, I've never been able to get close enough, so consider me jealous!

Beautiful pics mo!

we have those here, too. I stalked one all last fall and couldn't get a good photo of him. I have decided that I prefer the green ones. :D

Actually, this is the best shot I got of the blue one... it's not terrible, but I wish it had been a little better.

haha, thanks you two. I like the shot, I just wish that it had come out a little sharper. That's okay though, it gives me something to work for this year. :)
