Hi all.

I am a web developer. I would like to create some interesting patterns to use as backgrounds on webpages.

I have seen some people do some neat stuff with grass, wood and other stuff.

Im really looking for a tutorial or some advice. Lets say i grab a good image of laminated flooring how would i go about chopping it so that it creates a nice pattern?

Lets use this as an example: http://www.younangroup.com/jpg/catalog/laminat/Bamboo_Laminated_Flooring.jpg

Its a bit long winded in photoshop from what i did. I saved my chopped image as a pattern, created a blank canvas and painted the pattern. It always turns out wrong.

Im using PS CS on an iMac.

Thanks for any advice.

laminated flooring already as a grain pattern to it. BUT you also need an image that has fully even in direct light so that there is no highlight/lowlight to content with over the area. This lighting has more to do with the pattern edges appearing sliced than the actual grain.

Then you would just need to look at how the pieces are cut to find the right marks in the photo to slice your image.

Like the image you posted, it was either recreated in a program or shot in a photo studio so that there is no glare or shadows.
