In 1937 Guernica was devastated with aerial bombings by the Nazi Luftwaffe. This painting was his reaction to the tragedy.

Wow. Nicely done.

My senior year in high school I had the most amazing Humanities teacher, Mr. Carle. It was a kind of "take everything you've learned in 12 years and put it all in historical perspective for extra credit" class. His classroom was only steps from the library, which was his primary teaching tool :).

He had a print of Guernica over the door, and I saw it every day for two semesters. This just brought back all the great memories I have of that class...thank, Kittie! :D

Fail. :D

I've actually seen the real Guernica painting. It's pretty overwhelming.

Yup.

I saw it years back when they were doing the Picasso tour, it was at MoMA, in the late 70's, I believe, possibly early 80's? I'd seen it in print form, like in art books. Doesn't prepare you at all for the impact of what it's like when you're standing in front of it. It was cordoned off, for security (prevention of defacement) reasons.
