recently I've noticed photoshop starting to bog down on me...and I'm wondering it if may have to do with the 'memory & image cache' setting in preferences...are there any 'rules' here when setting the percentage?

I have mine at 50%. I could be that your computer itself is just getting bogged. Or you can just get more memory.

C:\DOS
C:\DOS\RUN

I've just picked up an external hard drive to keep the large files of my pc...and I have 2GB RAM...so I'm not sure what's happening.

So you are on PC? When was the last time you defragmented the harddrive?

if your on a pc, you have to constantly dfrag your system, especially if you work with large files because photoshop will use virtual memory and take 700-900 megs of space to use.....those leave large blocks and holes in your hardrive so you must defragment on a monthly basis if you work with large amounts of files.
