Nice job! Welcome, back steve!
Benjo... what a disgrace. I didn't catch the awards, but read this post from my boy Haviken Hayes on myspace:
(the comment at the top was my addition)
. . .
My man Todd added this:
Word. I missed the awards show, but In the 30 Years of Hip Hop Series VH1 ran, they totally skipped the Tribe/De La/Prince Paul era. In talking about the early 90's, all they mentioned was Wu-Tang, Biggie and Pac pretty much.
I was pancakeing pissed off (and still am). That's some sad crap.
Hav-
I'll have to say that I agree. They'd like to act like Biggie & Pac are Hip Hop. I take nothing away from what they brought to the art. Is that all they remember though. Its like they were the only ones rappin for about 10yrs.
I cant believe this crap!
Explain to me how it is that you have an award show to honor the founders of this great way of life & art form, yet theirs not one mention of Afrika Bambatta? (for those that dont know & desperatly need too. Founder of The Universal Zulu Nation ie Soul Sonic Force, Planet Rock, also coined the term:Hip Hop)They mentioned Zulu kings once & it was a Breaking crew reference. They're trying to rewrite history.
Its incomplete & I aint haven'it. @ the end they mention that it just wouldnt be complete without these guys 'Sugarhill Gang'
Please, they didnt even write the lyrics to Rappers Delight. Cold Crush Brothers had this cat named Casanova Fly now Grandmaster Caz. Listen to the words. One dude spelling out anothers name in the ryhme. This is why Jay-Z says 'I'm over charging motherpancakeers for what they did to the Cold Crush.' They & many others started this crap we live. So, why is it then that they still live in the Bronx? Dont say they're staying in touch with the community or I'll flip. VH1 a Viacom co. is hardly the athority on Hip Hop. The rest of them cats on the stage having a ball should've know that something was missing.
Do your research.
Know your history.
I'm so pissed right now I cant even keep typing.

I'll be back for more VH1 blasting tomorrow.
Peace,
HH

Yo you man was really over reacting. That was only the first year, and they paid homage to mad cats including:
DJ Hollywood
DJ Kool Herc
KRS-One
Run-D.M.C.
Public Enemy
Rock Steady Crew
Sugarhill Gang
Tupac Shaku
They didn't even mention Bigg it was just the intro, trust me next year they'll cover more. To be honest I was impressed that they actually got a lot of this stuff right. They had interview from all of them speaking. I thought it was a decent show and of course they won’t have it perfect but this is as good as it’s gonna get coming from mainstream America.
I know they missed a lot of cats but it was a decent show I liked it even though some of the performances where wack but it was a good rundown into the eye of Hip-Hop.
I’m shore each year they’ll mention more and more people. Now the day they mention Nelly will be the day I won’t watch it so we still got 5 years of a decent yearly event going.
I thought they did mention Afrika Bambatta and Zulu. I don’t know though but I thought the did. It don’t matter you can only fit so much in one hour and this wasn’t suppose to be a documentary. I was feeling it and of course the Fat nigga from the BX tore it down. I was also feeling the Nas performance with his pops.

2pac forever
only god can judge me

your cover would have looked better with the white around the lettes misted out further. it looked too condensed.
i also would have color corrected pitbull's face so it didn't look so yellow. but DAYUMN i would have loved to see the performances.

xosteve:
Shoulda done a couple of things. Color corrected the photos. Right now they all look too different and don't come together for a complete look. Also, the sizes are all different. Make them uniform.
Like-a so.
Also, I would lose the glow around the letters at the bottom, and try to make the outer glow around the names more uniform.

Not all hip-hop design has the outer glows, independent hiip-hop has some realy HOT design. Check out the design for the stuff Def Jux puts out. Most of it is great.

And you don't think that 'big money rap style' is overdone? Give me a break man. At least underground hip-hop is well designed. Its a modern movement and combines classic hip-hop culture with post modern tinges. Far more appropriate than something that looks like 1992
