Hiya

As I've discussed before, I suck at designing for myself. I'm re-doing my website (for the 8th time this year - no kidding), and am considering the following two directions. Note that these are comps, not finished designs.

What I'm after, is a general sense of which is more appealing.

Thanks!

I really should be working...

The 2nd one does it for me. Only make it a bit wider, and change the orange colored part to the background picture of the 1st one.

Yea number two is good but needs to be wider. I like it though it has a soft comforting feel to it.

Graphic Design Heroes! Call me Captain Type Caster. I’ve fought off “The Evil Cosmic Sans” for year but it seems “Dr. Extreme Untalent” keeps bringing him back. I must find a way to defeat this evil creature.

Capt. Creative bring me those comps…

#2 is super-trendy...ALMOST cool...(ha! see what i did there?)...i like the way your thumbnails jump out against the photo in #1, but there's something about it that leaves me feeling out in the open. i understand that this is what should happen with a photo like that, but i'd feel more comfortable if the content/navigation was 'locked down' a little more, as in #2. perhaps you need a 'canvas' for your text there, too.

They look great, personally I like the narrowness of the design but shouldn't the 'star' (*) on 'Speak to the...' be at the end of the sentence?
Also maybe the white background (on the 1st one) would look better slightly transparent.

Thanks. I wish I were as witty as uncle... Guess I'll have to stick with being gorgeous ;)

EDIT:

I'm abandoning this whole thing, and re-starting from scratch.

I'm going to keep a record of my trials and attempts to get this site up and working on my blog (http://www.peterflaschner.com). I'll include as much detail as I can, so feel free to follow along and share my frustration!

Flashlight your a mess man. I do the same thing. It took me 6 months to decide on a design and now I'm starting to hate it. I have to update it but my wife thinks I waste to much time with it and starts getting on my case for not doing nothing. I need a second computer for home. sighs...

Benjo, when I click on the little house icon to see your site, I get a Forbidden message.

As to the bit about the wife, let me say this: I feel your pain brother, I feel your pain...

cl!tty
smitty
fitty
