Hey all,
(another day, another forum membership, where I screw up and MISS the "welcome" thread!)
I saw you guys had a "pre-press" section in a GD website and was so shocked I had to join up! It's been some seriously good reading so far!
Thanks to you guys for making this place as informative and open as it IS!:D

When you get settled please read through the threads located here (http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=42). They will give you all the info you need on how the forum runs, the rules and regs, and give you some background info on our long running, inside jokes ;)

Welcome. :) Be forewarned, weekends from about beer thirty on are pretty slow, but you're probably reading old threads as a newbie anyway. Things tend to pick up again on Mondays.

My knowledge is probably more Guess & Gut than technical, but in my time working with newsprint, I did enjoy watching a lot of people blow off newsprint as "easy" ... who then spun in circles as they combusted and ranted about "Why doesn't it print ..?!? This paper is crap!" -cue tears effect-:p It's a very different medium and takes a lot of patience to learn and adapt to, once you know it though, it's open to a lot of short-cuts!
I started working in Pre-press again, this week actually, and am in the process of trying to adjust myself to a regular printing press as opposed to my days of newsprint! Sharper lines, and less room for error are a great challenge.:D
