I finally got out this week looking for this heron. It took 3 visits on 3 different days but it payed off in the end.

Got a few more to edit but here are 2 of my favs from the bunch!

ISO 200, F8, 1/500 @400mm, Post done on Adobe CS curves adjustments, added more colour in the channel mixer and a tad of USM. First image is slightly cropped about 10%, second is cropped 30%

Wow, quite stunning shots!!

I love herons, there are so many around these parts, I often see them flying above our house.

That was a very pleasant surprise for me. GBH means Grievous Bodily Harm in the UK.

Lovely lovely photos!

Stunning photos! Really, really nice. I love the moment that is captured on the top one. They are amazing birds. My parents have one or two that hang out in the bay of their lake.

I'm not familiar with the USM term. Would you explain?

Amazing. The GBH looks so still in those pics but you know it's moving.

Thanks RK! I always like to share what I shoot. I feel somewhat responsible for this section of the forum since I and a few others had something to do with it. :)

Indeed! I've always wanted to head up your direction Mike. Where abouts are you? I work for medical company and we serve that whole area.

It was probably about 11:00am, the lighting was really harsh but luckily the sun was behind me and adjusting the camera to underexpose gave me ideal results.

Consider yourself lucky! although there are a few local spots that have a few of them, they are normally very skittish and hard to get close to.

LOL! I could see why it was a pleasant surprise!

Thanks Tea, I got lucky with that shot, I took several consecutive shots the moment he took off and ended up with 5 decent keepers.

USM is the unsharp mask function in photoshop. Most DSLR shooters use .raw and a little sharpening is required when shooting .raw

Amazing. The GBH looks so still in those pics but you know it's moving.

Almost looks 3d doesn't it!

Thanks again everyone!
