Anyone else having this problem?

at work
I have a mac G5 running ox 10.5.3, 2 x 2.66 ghz dual core intel
running 2 apple 512s and 2 (not sure what brand) 512s

I did a software update and then restarted about 3 weeks ago and my computer would not start back up, just kept telling me that I needed to restart.

called apple, took computer to a service rep, etc, etc...

So now I'm running with just the 2 apple 512s, My IT guys are telling me that the memory will not work unless all chips are exactly the same. Not sure if this is completely true as the IT guys are PC people and don't know all that much about Macs.

I'm just curious if anyone has heard of this problem before. If my IT guys are right then the computer memory has to be upgraded at the same time and upgrading later will not work.

ok, what needs to happen is that the ram needs to be exactly the same type, i.e., 800mhz DDR3 with the heatsinks on it. as far as brands go, you need to install the memory in exactly the same pairs (2 x 2gb chips for example), and both members of the pair need to be identical.

you install one in the top card, and one in the corresponding slot in the bottom card. if you have your manual, it shows (and tells you) exactly what you need. also,

this is a good place to check: www.macsales.com and click on the memory tab. my *&^%$# piece of *^&%&$ windows machine has stopped copy and pasting again, or i would send you the exact link.

just make sure, if your machine is from 2007, it uses the slower ram (667mhz). i don't know if it'll run with the higher speed stuff in there but if it does, it won't be stable.
