either at home, while freelancing or at work, which do you spend most time using? Quark or InDesign?

I'm just too used to Quark, I tried using InDesign in this job and just couldn't work it, I kept trying to use my Quark shortcut keys. So I demanded a copy of Quark ;)

i have to use quark here at work but i've recently completed a job using indesign and found it much more sensible... yeah, i used all my quark shortcuts and was annoyed when they didn't work (lol) but i just need to get used to it.

Martyng, I was like you a while back but you must give Indy more of a chance, the shortcuts are a bit of a pain to learn but they become ingrained soon enough. Indy is so much more stable and more intuitive, it's way ahead of Quark in my opinion.

I'm using Quark 95% of the time and slowly transitioning over to InDesign

Hmmm.
Linotype 300 phototypesetter > Aldus Pagemaker > Ventura Publisher (GEM UI) > Adobe Pagemaker > Quark 3.3 > InDesign (Original Flavor) used Quark 4 & 5 side by side with Indy 2 & CS > CS2 > CS3.
Anyone else use Ventura (pre-Windows or post-)?

I learned on Quark (that's what they had at school), and the job I got out of school (and still have) is 99.9% Quark. All their archived files starting from the early 90's are in Quark, and we still have to access them to make changes, etc. We do have InDesign now, but pretty much only use it to make changes to a file designed elsewhere and brought to us by a client. I try to use InDesign exclusively at home for any personal projects to help me learn it.

I learned Quark in College, and when I got my job they used quark for about two months and then switched over to InDesign - haven't looked back since (almost four years) I still have a copy of Quark but I never open it because I also have the Quark to InDesign plug-in.

I use Indy all the time now, but I'm a quark convert. BTW, did you guys know that you can set up your shortcuts in Indy to be the same as quark? Set in preferences. That's essentially what made it easier for me to cross over. Also a book called Indesign CS/CS2 breakthroughs by David Blatner and Anne-Marie Concepcion.

Quark in school, InDesign wasn't out yet.
Quark at the jobs I've had with InDesign as backup for outside files.
Right now I'm in the process of starting new jobs in InDesign and only going back to Quark for old jobs.

I've only used InDesign, I'm the art director for a monthly newsletter (it's volunteer work unfortunately, but it keeps me in practice) and that's all I've used. I've been a bit worried about not knowing Quark, but I'll be fine, right?
I am a big quark guy - freelance and at work. I like its snappiness, It is a much lighter program and InDesign reminds me too much of Pagemaker ... which brings back horrible memories of computer lock ups and crashes.

To all you guys that mentioned the shortcut keys, you do know that you can change InDesign's shortcut keys to emmulate those of Quark, right?

I prefer Quark because I'm used to it and I know all it's little tricks and workarounds. I prefer ID's greater scope of tools though.
I actually have Quark 7 installed on the new machine I have at work, I just haven't used it yet. No one else in my office has it installed yet (they put it on mine since I was the first guinea pig in the great computer-musical-chairs spectacle), so if I started using it and someone else needed to open my files on their machine, they wouldn't be able to. I'll start using it when everyone else has it.

Learned Quark in school.
first paying job I used MultiAd: AdCreator (newspaper ad design) and Quark.
Next job InDesign.
This job a mix but mainly Quark...though transitioning new ads/layouts branding in InDesign.
Freelance is all InDesign. when i get a file from another designer at home I open it, look it over and recreate in InDesign if I need it.
NOW, i get confused when going back to Quark with shortcuts...for the longest time i would constantly try and Export rather than Get Image

I was going to mention that. One of my ex-colleagues was a Quark user and set her shortcuts in Indesign to Quark ones. It confused me every time I had to hop onto her workstation.
