No, this is not a grocery thread... sorry shoppers.

Just curious how often you save while working on a file. I have recently increased my saving frequency after having some network issues.

Anyway, thought it might be interesting for find out.

I tend to save differently depending on how large a file is, at least in Photoshop. With InDesign, I save all the time, definitely after I've done something that I want to be able to revert to if I'm going to try to do something nutty.

I save often when I remember to. Sometimes when you get really involved or concentrating it's hard to step back and remember to save, but I generally save after every few moves.

save save save is my motto ... I have lost too much too many times ... It's now burned into my routine... I save every few steps or so

My saving technique is a sickness. I involuntarily hit ctrl s after every little change. I save probably 2-3 times a minute. It becomes a problem on big files with too much waiting.

I've been burned too many times in the past so I developed the "ctrl S twitch"!

it's not as bad as it used to be. the adobe software is a little more stable, operating systems are a little more stable, so it's doesn't necessarily feel like you need to save as much. that's when, of course, you'll lose a file.

i mean, remember with mac os 7-9 (even), when the OS would crash everything would crash and lockup, and you'd be screwed. now, it's not so bad. and of course everyone remembers quark's legendary "unexpected end of file" error...

im usually good about every 10 mins or so depending on what im working on and how big of a file im working on.

Even in 10.4.11 I have the occasional kernel panic error (insert urst's running around smiley). For a while it was a daily thing, and I've developed a phobia to that curtain down effect in anything! I tracked it to Norton Anti virus trying to "phone home" and I haven't had any more trouble. Knock wood. But I still save religiously.

I try to save after every 'milestone' in the design, however sometimes i will completely forget. I've started projects before where i never saved until it was finished.

Yeah, I like to live on the edge, chicks dig it.

I live on the edge - sometimes relying on InDesign's auto recovery if anything goes wrong - not a good way to live but when saving takes five minutes its a long time to wait.

I fall somewhere between king of saves and every 15 minutes.

I've inherited some old unstable large files that have defied my attempts to import them into new fresh documents. They'll be recreated from scratch eventually, but for now I have to make the best of it.

One likes to crash Quark and corrupt itself. So on that one, in addition to saving often, I also make duplicate files about every half hour in case it decides to commit suicide.

Typically, about every 30 minutes for me. However, I always minimize my apps when I step away from my desk (sometimes I have classified corporate stuff on my screen that needs to be hidden) and my laptop has frozen when I do that. It has something to do with the dual video card on my docking station, but IT hasn't figured it out yet. Anyway, I always hit CTRL-S when stepping away from my computer.

I've also done the bonehead move of kicking or stepping on my power strip under my desk and lost stuff. I'm pretty good at saving now :D
