What is the theory behind swoosh logos, everyone has em, as you can see on showcase forum i was working on one as well...dont worry dropped that one! why does this solution appeal to so many, when they can fade so fast, look at comcast, and so many others using it.

Thats me and it looks like a swoosh but at the time it was cool okay.
No just playing. I guess everyone liked that trend but I think I'm going to change it now. It's actually a F & and an I for Faith Image.
As I become a better designer I grow with new ideas. At the time influence dictated to me the idea.
Their is nothing wrong with the swoosh and if it is used I think it can still look good but expirementing with new ideas is always best. Geomtrical shaped logos are easily reconizable and make a great imact. I think my next workaround will be a geometricaly shaped logo.

Everyone changes there logo every ten years at least. It has to be that way so if you make something really nice in 10 years from now it might still look nice but be changed abit.
Thats the world we live in it's no biggie. If you look everyone changes there logos Citibank, Apple, Microsoft, Budweiser, Pepsi etc.

Everyone has to "keep up" with the times and the changing trends, same with changing of ad campaigns and tag lines....it all falls in together. They have to change their image once in awhile to keep up with the times...like Benjo said---its the world we live in...no biggie! :o) it's alllll good <img border="0" src= "smileys/smiley14.gif">

Change shows progress and growth. Tastes change with each generation. Some changes are small, as it's important to retain equity in a logo that has been around for generations, ie Coca Cola, Some changes seem good at the outset but backfire. I heard Kodak lost over 60% of their sales when they switched from their yellow package to a blue one. Glad I wasn't the guy to make that decision. Back to the swooshes: I just finished a logo using a combination of 3 swooshes. Tried others that just didn't quite get the idea of energy and movement that the swooshes conveyed. Don't know what the next trend will be. But it will be clean and simple I'm sure.

I think the swoosh became so popular because it can visually represent so much. Forward thinking, full of energy, all encompassing, infinite space, etc. It's a little over used now days, and a solution that could probably be achieved with a newer more creative approach. This site pl;ays up the overuse of swooshes in logo design, and it's kinda funny too: lekowicz.com/library/logohell/logohell.html (http://lekowicz.com/library/logohell/logohell.html)
That link is funny Case. I think 'Millennium Orbital Crescent Swish!' would be a great name for a band.

I would consider it swoosh-like. Matter of fact, if you flipped it and pulled the point up farther, it would be the Alero logo:

Of course, my logo has a swoosh too. I made it before the big craze though. I was going for edge. At least, that is what I'm going to keep telling myself.

hehe .. i've been dying to redo ours but it seems i'm the only one that feels that .... i want to come up with something that has to do with the origin of 3Howards, the 3 Stooges. but i don't want it to be too playful or comical. that's difficult. of course i think that it's much easier to work on a clients logo as opposed to your own.
Hey mind is a swoosh too. But I tried to despretly hide it in a circle.

No no, it's just an F & I the F goes up and down and the line in the middel is the little line that strikes trough the F. Then the dot starts the I and the bottom swoosh is the remainder of the I.

Possibly the human mind finds certain shapes and colour combinations pleasing and harmonious. When I say human mind I mean thevisual centers of our brainthatdo a lot of processing before the conscious mind has even been involved.I think we usuallythink of our perception of the worldas beinga literal representation of the outside world (seeing is supose to bebelieveing).Advertising is possiblyso powerful because perception forms a bigpart of our logical and measured response in any situation, without us being fully aware of what the fact that we are being reached on a subconscious level. You can't watch something passively because the brain is automatically processing and linking emotionally to what we see without us being involved consciously. Perception is not easily controlled consciously.
I suspectthat thereare parts of our mind, handeddownto usas a result ofevolution, that respond favourably to certain visual patterns. When we produce these patterns we know because the reaction inconscious thinking is "that looks good".
I'm on about timelessness really - I think design fashions/trends give us variety, but if we can reach an audience on a fundamental perceptuallevel as well as on an intellectual level then the visual side ofthedesign will look good for as long as the human mind takes to further evolve (though the ideas it represents may expire in a much shorter timescale).
Appologies for jotting down so much but it bugs me as to why things are the way they are - so I'm airing my own theories onlineto calm my head down a little bit!

I think swooshes are popular because they are an easy way to get a nice, professional looking logo. Just about anything looks goodwith a swoosh next to it.
It's the same reason you see a lot of red, white, and blue colored signs and logos. Easy color combination, stands for America, and requires little imagination!
