I am thinking of offering a one year Free web hosting valued at $166 to prospects wanting web design done.

Has anyone done such offer? If so do you deduct the cost from their final bill or sign up for them and pay upfront?

The problem with singing up for them is that I would have to input my credit card number and info and once next year comes around I can get charged for renewal again.

I spoke to my provider and they suggested i pay first and later ask the client to change the payment contact information (mine) to that of theirs so that they get charged next year.

I am not providing any technical support or anything so I am worried by me signing up I am committing myself to future questioning.

I do state in my contract that the web hosting company is a preferred company and is not affiliated with my company.

Don't do it, Beez. It's not worth the headache. Don't say I didn't warn you...

i second what digi said..u will be shooting yourself in the foot...just offer affordable packages for your clients and do good quality design work...u deseve to get paid...if you must offer some sort of perk...maybe do a first month free or something instead? But a whole year! nooooway!

I agree, pay upfront and then just change the payment information on the domain name. If you must offer a perk as DesignVHL said, I would offer something like "Up to x hour consultation free." or "Free basic SEO".

This would allow you leverage to say that you are wanting to work with the company for their benefit. In all respects, hosting is the last thing the client is worrried about. They are worried about making money.

i would just take the cost off the bill, just show it as a negative line item on the invoice. no headaches that way.
