Hello,

I would like to say Hi, and introduce myself.

My name is Amanda, I'm 20.

I have been interested in design for awhile. This is my first website, however.

Can you give me some pointers perhaps?

Thank You.

-Amanda

You have stuff all over the place. you need to consolidate and organize. Not sure how the pictures on the left relate to the company. You need to rethink what the company does and how it relates to the website. The scheme is boring and looks like a template. you need to bring it alive. The logo in the top left is horrible and needs to be redone if you have the option to do that. As for it being you first website its not bad but just consider this version the rough first mock up and rethink and revise and continue to post updates and you will have something nice at the end. Peer critques are the best thing you can get at the beginning level.

I agree to the T! I'm not very experienced in web design, because im still in school and learning..but it is a tad bit boring! Take his advice and maybe add some more color! It's not print design, so color is an option of your choice! Make it fun!

I actually quite like the carriage works logo. Quite peaceful and artistic. Although I don't think it really relates to fixing cars, so it probably isn't appropriate for this company.

Anyway, Amanda, don't give up or get discouraged. The main thing I found in design is just to keep going, keep designing, and keep looking at other designs.

Hello and thanks so much for your thoughts.

One of my goals was to not have the website 'bigger and better' then the actual business. Our business is a small shop, so I didn't want to send the impression that we are a huge corporation that we aren't. I wanted the website to be an accurate reflection of what we are. Thus the lack of bright colors.

Thanks for the idea on redoing it. I might, just for practice, make another.

Anyways, I look forward to more opinions.

Its not about really being bigger or better it just about proper layout. Line things up and use some type hierarchy. Like contrasting heading and text. Pull out some guides to help with alignment and use pictures that work with the business, the people who own the business and the clients you want to get. Believe me i know what its like to just start out but you need to follow these basic rules for ever single thing you design. Its a great start but its just that a start. With a little bit more work you will have a solid good site that would be great in a resume portfolio.

The images on the left of the page running vertically shouldn't be there. Unless they are clickable, people will get discouraged and think they are links to something else.

The design of the web page is suppose to bring a viewer's eye to the content. Right now, it is pushing it away since the content is not organized in a logical fashion.
