Hey, Thanks, Typically!!!!

It looks really hilarious, but it also looks like it's working! I've seen them for like, $10, so I think I'll give it a try.

(LOL, I just realized the ripe one at the bottom right is a forehead! I must need another cup of coffee.)

You know, I got that at first glance, since most tomatoes don't tend to wear sunglasses. ;)

Neat plant, Typically! What's the reason for growing it upside down?

i just looked it up and found this

First, the air can circulate better so the plants have almost no disease problems. Second, the fruit doesn’t rot as quickly as that on the ground. And finally, some critters that eat tomatoes have trouble getting to the ripening fruit.

http://www.minifarmhomestead.com/gardening/tomato.htm this site shows you how to make your own upside down planter

I"m most interested in the critter-abatement part. We have loads of tricky squirrels that like to take one bite and throw the rest away.

And I do love my 'mater sauce!

That is very cool, but why? Is it a floorspace saver or do they grow better upside down?

Oops :o

Another thing I just thought about, the plant (not fruit) is poisonous to bunnies so that's another reason for hanging tomato plants.

There used to be woodchucks living in a field out behind my house, and every time I planted any vegetables in the garden they completely destroyed them within about 48 hours. Especially the broccoli. I never had a single plant survive.

I've never laid eyes on a woodchuck.

Or somehow getting into your garage and eating virtually every wire under the hood of your car, eating the fuel line, and puncturing the air-conditioning line. Climbing the garage door track to rip insulation off of the wall and waterpipes. Getting down off the garage door track by dropping onto your car. Getting down off the car by sliding down with his claws extended — 3 or 4 times. All the while making your garage smell like a woodchuck outhouse.

Other than that, kinda cute.

was this an on going problem or was this some sort of groundhog girls gone wild party in your garage

It was one solitary groundhog on what was evidently one very busy night. There are only two possible ways it got in and neither is very likely.

Possibility #1) It rode in from about 8 miles away in the engine compartment. It was a hot day though so it's not like it would have climbed up there for warmth.

Possibility #2) It ran into the garage as the car was being parked. In that place we didn't have a powered garage door so you had to pull up, get out and open the door, drive in, then get out and pull the door shut. It doesn't seem likely that he would have run in during that short time, especially with the car driving and someone walking about. Plus, it was just a huge bare yard back there so it's not like he had a good place to hide before scuttling inside.

We were very lucky that we still had full coverage. It was just a used economy car and we'd just paid it off about 6 months before all this. We'd been thinking about dropping the full coverage. We paid our $500 deductible and then insurance paid in $2,000, maybe a little more.

Damned woodchucks.

Pretty cool, Typically! Nothing like summer tomatoes!

well my parents were thinking that if they did this with cherry tomatoes or some other small tomato this wouldn't be problem. they just tied them up to the hook the have the plant hanging on so you might be ok garricks
