New to the community!

Hey all :)

A quick intro, been stuck on these forums as a guest for about a week now and I'm quite happy to have found this place. A little about myself;

I'm situated in Sydney Australia, completed a bachelor in Architecture design in 2006, then took up a year-long course on 3D graphics last year mastering in Maya 8.5

I've always had a passion for design in most of its aspects and I have been integrating everything I've learned over the years into new concepts and methods.

I took up a job to finish paying for college this year, they took a great interest in my design background so they have been getting me to do most of their advertising material as well as working their website and a new corporate image, I had to dig in deeper into new concepts of design I hadn't explored before, in other words graphic design which lead me to these forums.

I actually took quite a shine to design and worked overtime self-learning and working on the new look for the company, which actually led to more freelance graphic design work for other companies.

So now, since I'm ever learning I've began a lot of self teaching using the Adobe CS3 suite, tackling photoshop and dreamweaver first before I work up the courage to dive into Illustrator and InDesign.

Anyways, sorry to be so long winded, just happy to have found a place where I can learn so much and hope to maybe over time too become a contributor of knowledge to the forums :D

When you get settled please read through the threads located here (http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=42). They will give you all the info you need on how the forum runs, the rules and regs, and give you some background info on our long running, inside jokes ;)

Welcome! Architecture and 3D? Interesting background you have there. I can't think too well in 3D. Have you considered going into packaging design?

Actually, I'm designing bits of everything for my current job, including some packaging. I haven't really had the luxury though of devoting the time to make proper 3D graphics for them though, its an interesting idea, though for now im stuck with 2D shapes and colors :eek:

For the last brochure I did for a fine dining restaurant though, I couldn't find a respectable wine glass to use like I wanted for the front cover, so I ended up making a nice one in 3D so I could get a camera angle from below the glass.

Playing with lighting for glass and fluid on a simple mental ray based renderer though was a bit more trouble than I should really have gone to for the brochure but o wells what else do you do when you get some bright idea stuck in your head? :cool:
