Estelle Getty, the diminutive actress who spent 40 years struggling for success before landing a role of a lifetime in 1985 as the sarcastic octogenarian Sophia on TV's "The Golden Girls," has died. She was 84.

the only reason I knew she hadn't was they were talking about her on the TV land awards ... I wondered who would go first. They are all getting up there.

I thought she was already gone, too. That's got to be one of the pitfalls of being well-known for playing a character older than your actual age.

I am sorry Estelle Getty died. I really liked her.

However, I cringe at the very thought of The Golden Girls. My husbands grandmother, who we cared for during the last 2 years of her life, would watch that show every evening. She'd turn the tv up extremely loud. Whenever Golden Girls is coming on in our house, everyones diving for the remote to change it before we have to hear even a note of the theme song. We're all scarred.

I still love the show ... and Sophia played the Mom ... Dorothy was her daughter ... Rose was the dumb blonde ... not the slut.
