Ok this is my first time attempting a logo. I don't know what you should do and what you shouldn't do. My friend owns difrnt.com and is wanting logo. It is going to pertain to Apples iPhone. So the thought and slogan is to "Thnk Difrnt". Yea anyways. I did this. Opinions, pros, cons anything. Thank you.

EDIT: He denied it. So it wasn't good. So basically I need pointers because I like it but it don't matter what I think.

I kinda like it, but since he is your "client", if he didn't like it you should really ask him what he would want in his logo. Also what programs do you have to create a logo with?

Would the client want to ask what program designer use to create a logo? :)
Actually the best result would be a product designer create the concept while client is looking at your screen, but it would mean you are creating designer. :)

The client won't ask what program you use to create a logo, but it should be a vector based program.
The OP needs to sit with his client and get a solid brief written down before doing any more work. You should be asking the client a lot of questions. Since you are obviously not on the same wavelength, you need to get onto the same wavelength as your client (or persuade your client to get onto the same wavelength as you).

There is nothing worse than having a client looking over your shoulder while you design something.... NOTHING!

I agree with the general consensus of asking the client A LOT of questions and finding out exactly what he wants. otherwise you will just be going back and forth for ever!

Thats the thing. The "client" is my friend and he has no clue what he wants. We been trying to think of ideas for something for awhile now. That idea I made is the first real thing that has came to me.

Right. Well, they do always say don't do business with friends! Although obviously it's a bit late for that now :)
Not to sound patronizing, but have the two of you been through what the company stands for, what is important to him in terms of a message etc?

We know what the website will be for. Its a Windows version of Pwnage Tool for the iPhone. Which Unlocks and Jailbreaks the phone so you can access it and put 3rd party apps and change anything you want to.
There is already a website called WinPwn that does the same thing but its harder to use and is slow for updates when firmware is updated.

Right. Next question - what is it he didn't like about the logo you posted above? Or did he just not like it generally?

Just said "Don't like it."
What would you change about it?

Change? Nothing... He is the one who needs to give you direction with it. Does he want black and sleek, or chartreuse and modern, or pink and bubbly?

Find out a little more, Justin, then show him at least three, very different ideas. If he leans towards one, you can branch off from there. "Think of logo design as a shotgun, not a sniper rifle," as my instructor so elloquently says; at least in the beginning.
But, first, go back to your friend. He said he doesn't like your design. Ask him what about it he doesn't like.

Yes, I agree. You need specific information as to what he wants and does not want. Then go from there.

I am doing a website for my friend. He has his own I.T. company. When I started asking him questions he said "whatever you want. I trust you" but then he said I don't want lots of text and no pictures. At that point I let him choose everythign and he more or less designed it. Moral is don't do work for you friends it is a pain in the butt. I pretty much just let him make the decisions and I coded and aligned stuff. I did his logo too which was just as difficult. When you work for friends, especially for a discount rate or no rate, tell them straight up about things. No input no good idead. Its as simple as that.

This is in no way helpful to either of you. If you simply design logos over and over when he has no idea what he wants, you will get nowhere and waste a lot of time doing it.

I once did a job for a friend. She couldn't tell me what she wanted. All she could tell me is that everything I did was definitely not what she wanted. I told her to go away and come back when she knew what she wanted. We are not mind readers and worse than that is when the client doesn't know what they want.
It's been 2 years and she still doesn't have a logo. Surprise surprise.
