Teh Googe launches Knol (http://knol.google.com/k#)...

The web contains vast amounts of information, but not everything worth knowing is on the web. An enormous amount of information resides in people’s heads: millions of people know useful things and billions more could benefit from that knowledge. Knol will encourage these people to contribute their knowledge online and make it accessible to everyone.

When I was going through cancer, there was another person on another board that was convinced that if I changed my diet to an "all healthy" diet that my cancer would go away. There's even a whole website about "curing cancer with food".

She wrote an entire article and posted it taking quotes from said website. She sounded like she knew what she believed was true.

When someone, my self included, hears that big "C" word, they will go online and search for answers. Especially if the person is sick for a long time and no one can tell why because the cancer is hidden - as mine was. You'll reach for straws and try all sorts of goofy things if pushed to save your life. And even so much as drastically changing your diet at a critical time can put the person's body into more of a shock. Or like one thing I heard was "red meat causes cancer" well if I'd followed that path, I would have probably ended up with a heart attack as I already had an iron deficiency that was causing problems.

All because I looked online to find answers. And all I found were radical opinions.

The hard part about this type of site and wikipedia - for that matter the net in general, you don't know what is fact and what is a perceived opinion by someone.

With all the medical articles on there, I'm surprised I didn't see a bold "Not responsible for content and use of said content".

Good point, Drazan. Because I work in health care, I would always check our own Web site first. And so far all my ailments have been obvious (and on the minor side, compared to Cancer).

That really bears repeating. :)
