Emo and Goth to be made illegal in Russia

The Russian government is in the process of drafting a law to make emo and goth music illegal.

Last month a parliamentary committee was convened to discuss a draft proposal of the Russian government's Government Strategy In The Sphere Of Spiritual And Ethical Education bill, the details of which were leaked to The Moscow Times. The newspaper subsequently reported that, among other things, the draft bill dubbed the musical movements a "dangerous teen trend" and called for emo and goth websites to be regulated and young people dressing like emos or goths to be banned from entering schools and government buildings.

As much as I loathe emo and goth culture, that is most unfortunate news. It *is* Russia, after all, but still a blow for expressionism for those kids.

The government doesn't have more important things to deal with? Lucky for them.

Errr... what about if we are just dressed in black/red. (I hate drugs, smoking, etc.)

P.S. I'm not Russian. I was just curious about clothes cos I am fan of the goth style though not for every day.

Wow. If that is passed, then it just leads to an open door for other bills that take away civil liberties for them. While it is Russia, it sets a precedent for other countries as well.

Well they will be locking me up for sure .. 90% of my wardrobe is Black and shades of Red. I'm not Goth I just like Black and Red ... even my bedroom is red and my sheets are black :p

Maybe I am Goth and haven't come out of the casket yet :D

lol Kittie.

You know, I think Russians have trouble with that whole democracy thing. It kind of reminds me of the beginning of imperial Russia by Peter the great. In order to look more european they banned beards from the military and service and taxed those who kept beards of a certain length or longer. He also took to adopting european fashions and trends.

They like to look like a democracy by telling everyone they're democratic but really they're just imperialism dressed in european fashions lol.

As much as I hate emo music (they all sing like they are 12 years old and no substance). It is a form of expression that I don't believe any government has the right to censor. Although I can see how Russians might feel that emo is a blow to their manliness.... it is.

I think all Russians should listen to Shostakovitch and Tchaikovsky and drink vodka while wrestling bears.

Then no one would argue about their manliness.

I was playing CS this one time and this Russian dude was playing. I asked him "Do you drink vodka with your cheerios?"

He said "No, I just drink vodka."

LMFAO, I wish I was Russian..... sorta.

IDK, but your penalty is to read "Crime and Punishment" by Wednesday and post a 500-word book report. Prepositions and articles don't count.

Not all Russians are men. All the women are ballerinas.

Good point Buda another oversight on my part. Now do they drink vodka and read Dostoevsky at the same time though?

hmm, I don't have crime and punishment but I do have the idiot and the brothers Karamazov.

Drunk ballerinas? I don't think so.

I don't know it might work out. We won't know unless they have tried it before.

It could be very entertaining.

In fact they could combine it with the bear wrestling!

Reminds me of when I learned how to downhill ski.
On Spring Break, in Quebec with my friends, when I was 17.
(18 y/o drinking age, but they served everyone)

I was surprisingly good :)

Actually, alcohol seems to improve my pool playing skills too, and dancing. Well, at least I think I dance better, when I really think about it though I probably don't ;)

I don't agree with the banning of it. If kids aren't allowed to dress and be emo, it makes it really hard for someone like me to go emo bashing at concerts. Yes, I'll admit, I'm that freakin' punk you see in the circle pit pushing the little emo snots to the ground. But only the emo's. Everyone else I leave alone. *LOL*

Hmmmm....a drunk ballerina....I like the sounds of that. mwahahahaha!

I could see it happening in school's but probably not much else. I'm really glad I got out of school before this trend started getting big.

I should be getting royalties for part of this! Long before the emo thing came along I had the black hair with the bright red bangs, and the razor blade was a logo that everybody associated with me. Then those little knobs ripped me off!
