Teen Dressed As Bus Driver, Returned Buses At End Of Day
MIAMI -- Police have arrested an 18-year-old man accused of stealing at least three county buses and driving them on their routes.
James L. Harris is charged with three counts each of third-degree grand theft and burglary of an occupied conveyance, WPLG-TV reported.
The most recent theft occurred Tuesday, when he was arrested and charged.
According to Miami-Dade police, Harris would take the buses from several Miami-Dade Transit bus depots in the county and drive the buses on their routes, picking up and dropping off passengers along the way. He would then return the buses at the end of the day.
Police said Harris didn't raise any suspicion because he was dressed like a Miami-Dade Transit employee. Police said he also didn't steal any bus fare.
It was unclear why Harris allegedly stole the buses, but police are investigating whether he had help from Miami-Dade Transit employees.
They should be paying him a wage, not arresting him!

Lol, why the hell would this guy do this?
He isn't getting paid and he isn't ripping people off. I see no motive here.

My guess would be that some of the employees were paying him some of thier wages to drive various routes for them so they could take time off without losing all thier days wages.

Maybe he decided he needed some work experience? Or maybe he is delusional and actually thought he was a bus driver. Frankster's suggestion is a smart one too. But in that case, shouldn't the employees get into trouble too?

Bingo. He actually did this since he applied there and they said 'no' to him. He has some strange obcession to busses, like most guys like trains or cars. This guy LOVES buses... *shrugs*
Actually happened down in Miami, like 30 minutes from me!

This reminds me of the movie The Secret of My Success, only with bus driving and no Helen Slater.

They mentioned he might have gotten help from transit workers. They may have given him the keys.

I've heard similar stories before. For some reason I remember a Harper's article about a guy who had a fixation for driving different subway line(s) in NYC.
I dunno about you, but I'm leery of the idea that anyone can just hop one of these things and drive it (trains, plains and automobiles included). Makes me wonder what kind of security is really there on our mass transit, what little mass transit there is.
And there's a big selling point: ride mass transit, where the knuckleheads could just as easily be driving you to your destination as the paid employees.

wasn't there a story a while back about a student that kept taking the school buses ... for no reason but to be able to drive them around?

That's true. Do bus drivers have to wear uniforms where you are?

Yes, but anyone can go to a uniform store and assemble enough pieces to make it look convincing. :(

That's true.
This is reminds me...There was a taxi driver here that had several complaints about how he assaulted female customers. That is scarey right? I mean, often late at night, no one around etc. More complaints lead to investigation. Turns out he had been fired from his company already and was just driving around anyway.

Are you sure he was fired and didn't just have a "glitch in the payrole department fixed"?
