This isnt graphic design work but wood(finish/trim) design and carpentry. I've been working as a trim carpenter the last 4 summers while at home away from school. I'm doing all of the trim work on my cousins new house this summer and thought I would share some of the woodwork i have designed and finished. Forgive me the pictures were taken extremely quick and are kinda aweful and taken with a crappy camera. This is just a portion of what I've done so far no pics of most of the base and case there are a few and i just started setting the cabinets. CC welcome and appreciated!

This is a vanity table for a bathrooms that I built today actually. Maple, 37" x 16.5" height 27". A granite slab will be on top of it along with one of those bowl sinks, I think. I believe this will also be natural stain but coule be dark.

This is a ceiling piece that will have can lights and a fan in it. This is in the "great room"of the house. 20' ceiling and Idk know the dimensions of it but it's huge and took a long time. This is all wrapped in 1/4" maple plywood and 1x2 maple. This will be natural stained. I built the boxes that wrap like shelves around the walls out of 1x6 and the top is left off because there will be lights that shine up towards the ceiling.

This is a built-in cabinet in the office. These are also in two of the bedrooms. Fun to build an extra storage space. I believe these will get shelves of I will be building a door for them.

This is the theater. The column is wrapped in 1/4" maple ply wood and 1x2 poppler from the trim. Then a space for electronics and a crawlspace down below to get behind the wall and wire the screen and electronics. A panel is built on the opposite side to match. This will all be dark stained.

This is one of the downstairs bedrooms. Windows are cased with 1x4 for the legs than a 1x2 on side then a 1x4 then another 1x2 on side. Shelves were built where the wall comes out and match the casing. Will all be painted exept for maple bypass doors which will be natural stain.

This is a couple of the cased windowns along with a built-in. The built-in with get shelves and is made from scratch.

Whoa dude, that is awesome. I am so jealous. I would love to do what you are doing for a bit. I've always wanted to build my own furniture. Will you come and teach me some things once you are done there?

I think dark stained wood is the sexiest thing out.

Wow awesome work.

My uncle does this sort of stuff and it's one of things that seems like it would be an excellent trade to learn.

Looks like a lot of hard work but it looks great.

I have always wanted to go to NZ. I am very lucky to love my summer job, which could ultimately end up being my career path. I love working with my hands and building things too much. I love GD equally though.

It is an excellent trade and even if I don't go this path in life the knowlege is priceless and can be used for a lifetime. I love GD equally though.

Dark stain is sexy but I love natural as well. The natral stain upstairs is contrasted by dark stained cabinets and vice versa downstairs. I can't wait to see it when it is finished and painted.

Thanks guys!

I took wood working as an elective in college, it was so much fun!

NICE! I always thought If I hadn't gotten into design I would be working in Wood. I love the smell of different woods as you cut and work with them. There is something rather theraputic about it.

Not to mention the handyman aspect of it. Awesome work, and great to customize like that.

Nice work indeed!

Well designed and executed pieces you've got there, exactly the type to make me want to do something of the sort myself. Loved woodwork in school, definately one of those things I wish at times I would've kept up. But I guess I can always go back to that if I happen to find more time on my hands at some point.

That is beautiful! My brother is a house builder and every now and again I get to go watch ... I love to watch the process and smell the fresh cut wood :)

I can almost smell the wood. I've been brought up working in wood as well. I used to do small ornamental furniture at first, starting to turn wood on the lathe at the age of 12. Later restored old farmhouses with my dad, which is the in thing here in Malta. What I loved about that job was that we always did something new and exciting, learning lots of different stuff along the way. For instance I learned a bit of gold gilding when restoring an old clock called "tal-lira". You can look this clock up if you like to see what it looks like. Restoration is great too.

I still think that I'll get to this "one day". I'm more into the furniture side of it though. So making furniture as well as upholstery. That would be way awesome.

I'm about four weeks in right now with all of that as well as setting all of the doors, building jambs and what not. That is four weeks of 50+ hours, but i love it. My cousin and I built the cieling piece together which probably saved three days of climbing up and down the scaffolding.

I'm definately more into the custom woodwork: the table, the ceiling pieces and built-ins. I guess most of this house is all custom so every bit of it has been enjoyable. It's hard to find jobs like that or I guess I should say it's hard to find people that appreciate the work and love that goes into the work, which in turn means people aren't willing to pay for what it's worth.

Wow. People actaully build things out of wood? I thought everything just appeared there outside my graphicdesign sort of world. hehe

Great job man, be sure to post more picks once your done!
