It's pretty cartoony and the colours don't really compliment each other. Is the book going to be that shape? I can see a man on a horse, but it's not the best silhouette I've seen, what's the thing coming out of the rider's back?

It needs work..... I would try adding more detail, choose a simpler colour scheme and refine your artwork

I can see where you are going with this .. but a couple things that hit me right off.

In addition to what Marty said:

- the horses front foot is backwards ... the joint at the hoof makes his foot look broken

- the cheek area of the horse is coming to a point

- The riders arm needs work .. looks like an odd wing right now

Also I would lose the gradient from purple to green.

Keep working at it .. I think it has a good potential :)

Is he riding through a nuclear bomb explosion? perhaps he rode over a land mine? I don't get what the yellow spikey do-da is...

In addition to the others, the grass seems out of place. Maybe make it the same color as the background (green or purple or whatever you go with), or just lose it altogether.

The grass is very spaced out looks more like its balding than anything. Is that a scarf or the guys arm flying out behind him? Also the book probably isn't going to be printed sideways so you are gonna have to rethink the shape. It's a good concept but there is a lot of work you need to do on it.

well if that big orange circle is supposed to be the sun the shadow is going the wrong way. the purple and green gradient makes my stomach feel queasy and will not look good when printed. the silhouette of the horse defiantly needs work. the color of the piece also needs looking at. try using colors that don't clash so much to. these colors just hurt my eyes.

Is there going to be text on top of this. You should work the text in so that we can see how the illustration works.

I've only seen kids book landscape. Lol

Looks okay.. needs more work.. lose the gradient from purple to green.

Keep trying!

I agree on what most of the other comments say...May I suggest you checkout www.kuler.adobe.com? Play with some of the color schemes there and see if you can find something that is more complimentary with each other. These colors are not working at all for me.

Illustrator has a SUPER COOL recoloring feature if you are using CS3 also...select the artwork, and then click on the circle icon on the top properties bar - should be in the center and will turn to rainbow colors...click that and mess w/ the options, may be as easy as pie to recolor that way.
