Started playing with hexagons and squares in an effort to create an unique font to use in my upcoming portfolio site and cv. This is where I'm right now:

So what I'm asking you is whether this is even legible? The text is in finnish, so you probably won't understand it, but that will only make this test more valid in that the content of the text can't help you in recognizing the characters. ;)

Takes a lot of work and comparing letter forms. You've got a number of forms that look like 'a' (n and something iwth a notch on the bottom).
r and t could be interchangable. And there are a few with notches cut out of them that I can't figure out.

Nice idea but I can't read it! I think some of the letters need to be clearer. The "f" and "a" read the best.

I can't read it at all...

I see

FAACAOIDEN
HIIHTEBY
ON
AINA
MEBHO

Then my eyes started to hurt trying to figure them out.

Really can't read it at all. What I got out of it was similar to Kittie's. Are those actual words or random letters? Real words might be easier to read (context and all) but the letters themselves are quite hard to read.

Don't make a prospective employer work to read your CV. I'd have tossed this one. Can't read it.

Thats why I just typed out the letters to see if I was close. But even in English I think I would be having some issues :(

Aha, I didn't see the Finnish part. Still too hard to recognize the letters, and definitely NOT good for a resume.

Yeah you had quite a few of them right. But I take it that v1 failed the legibility test quite miserably. And well, I would have had to have been out of my mind to have expected anything else. :D Not too alarmed, tho, as legibility isn't exactly a priority in this project. Still, I guess these need a bit of work.

Anyway, thanks for all the input guys! :) I'll be posting the next version in english, so we'll see how the context might help.

Almost all the letters look like As. Being that its in another language I don't know if I am reading it correctly or not, I'm gonna assume not. It's a cool concept and I could see it working very well but it's gotta be more legible. I like the way it fits together tho.

Thanks man. :)

Yeah, the top corner on the hexagon probably has a part in most letters looking a bit like a's. Anyway, although it might help with the legibility and making the letters more distinct, I'm not prepared to stray from the rather strict "rules" I've set for the project, that is, having the hexagon as a basis and cutting away two squares of equal size. At least not yet. Although I am finding X and Z quite challenging. ;) Z as it stands is a reversed S, but I'm not yet sure about that. And absolutely no idea what to do with X. I'll include those in the next bit.

nice one! its alot easier to read now. The M and W were the least legible for me.

the text creates an interesting pattern too.

quite fun.

If you were going to make this an actual font, the tracking and leading defaults would be interesting!

I think you might want to work on the "X" and what I assume is a "W", but other than that it's awesome.

if that word is "zealous" and not "jealous" I can't help but notice you either don't have a Z or a J.... at least one that I could see.
