http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/emoticons/ibf-iamstupid.gifAt least I think I am when it comes to websites. I see some beautiful websites about by photograhers and the time has come when I must have one.
WWWhere does one start. Is there such a website programme for idiots to build and then upload to someone like simplynames.com to host or do I apply for a hosting first?
I want a modern looking website that will hold many photo's under separate headings.
Economical advise welcome.
Thanks

If you are going to do it yourself, I suggest since you are just learning, that you get a free one first. Then when you get comfortable with your works you can get a real one. Now you can get someone to build it for you and have it up fast.
If your use designer software right now, design what you want your site to look like print it out and look at it.
One of the biggest frustrations of building a site is saying 'i want a site' and then you start building it. I think you have to have some general ideas on the look and a clear idea of content
organize your content (I don't know what your content is, butt):
home page
about me
design examples
each one of these above would be an .html file - so far you have three pages
what will be the context of each of these pages, some copy (text) some photo's, all that needs to be fixed first. your intro page is always named index. index.html (home page)
When you set up a site you have to have a file order and this will help you out alot, keep in mind your linking order:
(mainfolder)
index.html (home page)
aboutme.html
contactme.html
myworks.html
(imagefolder)
pic1.jpg
pic2.jpg
inside my site folder have a folder called images
that's where all your images go
inside the folder my site have all your html files, your pages.
Good luck

maybe geocities? through yahoo? I'm using their free service to host my site while I'm building it and waiting to purchase 'real' webspace.
I know that they have a 'page builder' feature, but I never checked it out, because I wanted to write it myself. It's worth a try!
The more people I meet, the more I love my cats.
forget about that ...
two way to build a web site
A)
learn to do it your self (recommended, and not so hard as it maybe seams at fitst )
B)
pay some money for good designer ...
in lack of money refer to A)
good luck ...

I agree with Kodi. You can learn to do it yourself, which isn't hard, but it will take lots of time and effort. Or you can hire someone. There are plenty here who can do it.

netfirms lets you have a free site and you use html programs to build it. I think it even has help files.
Hosting for sites is so cheap now that if you can afford it, it wouldn't hurt to do that.
lot of people learn by building with free sites first.
