Why do javascripts never work in my websites?

I don't know anything about writing javascript, but I love the effects that it gives webpages so I downloaded several free scripts to try with my website. I have followed the instructions to a tee and pasted it into my html page, but no matter what I do I have never gotten one to work. :confused: Does anyone know what I could be doing wrong, or know of any tutorials for learning how to use scripts in html pages? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

A live link would be best to tell you what is currently wrong.

w3schools.com is a good site where I learned a lot of the code I know now. You will need to expand from there after learning the basics though.

Are the scripts not linked correctly? Are you viewing in an older browser?

That's the only thing I can think of without seeing anything else is that they could be linked improperly.
