What version of Illustrator?
How are you getting this printed?
I usually let my vendor set his own resolution for Illustrator files as it is usually output device dependant.
Do you have images in your Illustrator file?

You sure they didnt say 30 DPI? ppi/dpi same thing.
Careful about what you 'reduce.' 100mb may be small depending on the size of your 'poster'.
I do large format stuff. What do YOU mean by superwide?
60'? 10footer?, 16footer?
How big is your print.

Sounds like a billboard machine at 30ppi or one if it's smaller cousins.
Those 600dpi images, what is their real resolution at final size?
I wouldn't worry about the Illustrator file itself, they will fix the document res if they need to (it is printer specific) and Illustrator is vector and scaleable. But the image resolution better be there. When working big, stock photos don't always work.

Yeah, PrintDriver, but he said he had placed Photoshop images in the Illustrator file... those aren't infinitely scaleable.

Question for PrintDriver and anyone else (and I will post as a topic too): any good suggestions for where I can find templates for vehicle wraps? Also looking for a vendor in South Florida. Thanks.

I was unclear.
Anything you drew in Illustrator as vector art is scaleable.
The images are not. They can only be enlarged as much as the resolution allows. You need to calculate your final resolution at final size. A 600dpi image that is 8' x 8' will only be 50dpi at 8'x 8' (96' x 96').

yes yes, that's what i need to know. i dont know how to see what my 'real resolution is at final size'

this is what i did,

I created a document in illustrator, 18'x22.5'. The real banner will be 4 times bigger than that. Printer i will work with requires 30 ppi at final print size.

i placed photos in my illustartor file as psd's from photoshop with 600 resolution.

thanks for all your help guys!

First question: Why didn't you make the banner at actual size in Illustrator?

How big were photos at 600dpi and are you using the whole image.
The math gets a little complicated with the sizing factor.

See if you can adapt this math to your images. If not, write back.
