Had to do two logo designs for school, one for northeast and one for southwest, just wondering how I could improve them

I like the first one a lot, but something about the yellow around the bean is bothering me. I'm also not sure about the font used for 'Arny's' - something about it doesn't quite seem right.
I like the way the text is a different color inside the banner... after looking at it for a minute the 'NY' popped out at me, making me picture a little posh cafe on the corner of a street in new york.
I like the fonts and style you used in the second one, but didn't quite get the connection between coffee and chili peppers. Of course, I haven't had my coffee yet this morning, so if it blatanly obvious and I'm just being stupid then I apologize.
Anyway, nice work! That's my 2¢

I prefer the second one, not sure about the gradient in the cup though.
I agree with Morea about your choice of font for 'Arny's.'
Are they chilli peppers?
I would comment some more but I've got a really bad hang over... I need more sleep... or another drink.... oh and welcome...

yeah theyre chili peppers, not sure about them, used them for a link to the southwest but I guess they invoke the thought of spicy coffee more lol

Please don't use brush script! Also look into the transition of black and yellow in the first one,...it's kind of distracting

I like #1 except for the different color lettering. Try making all the letter the same color in the word 'ARNY'S'

i like number 2, but its too dark i think, maybe use a lighter color for the coffee. the first one is okay, but i think it would look better with a toupe, black, and dark red. :)

IT'S A LOGO STAY AWAY FROM DROP SHADOWS AND GRADIENTS RIGHT AWAY,
if the logo has to go to black and white for newspapers, phone books ect, it will not work,
A good logo should always be able to be created in B/W
Work with the first one with the steam and the coffee bean with type, take out gradients for know dont make it look so busy
