What is up with Illustrator? Takes so long to save.

Sheesh, granted the ai file as numerous layers, but the file itself is only 1.5 mb and it taking almost an hour to save. Believe me I'm not waiting, I just save and go and come back and notice it took that long to save this dinky file. Any one have similar problem and resolved it? I'm on q6600 proc and 10k rpm drive.

Have linked images in it? How big is the document?

No linked images in it, the file size is 1.5mb. I made a bunch of icons and probably some 50 layers and each layer 2-3 sub layers. All designed using pen tool and some shapes such as boxes. But that shouldn't be a reason it takes so long to save.

Try unchecking the compression check box. I've noticed that sometimes speeds up saves on complicated files.

Post back if it works. I think I remember that speeding up file saves on a file I was working on that had no linked images, just a lot of paths, and it seemed to speed it up.

What format are you saving (.ai or .eps)? Also, zoom waaaaaaaay out and make sure there's no stray points on the pasteboard that may be increasing the size of the Preview in the .eps format.
