So I bought a spray top coat. I think I'm going to skip the primer since I'll just be using colored Sharpies and I don't think they'll have an issue with sticking. ;)
I'll update when there's more to update!
I'm looking forward to seeing those toes!

After going to the craft store, I realized that I'd be hard-pressed to find markers in the exact colors I wanted (without going to the more expensive art store down the highway) so I just bought some acrylic paints in two of the colors needed, and a marker for the finer details. Then I bought some primer, cuz I figure that might be needed to help the paint to stick! I'll be experimenting on some similar materials soon to make sure it won't chip too badly.

That'd be cool if it were affordable to send overseas. Send it off to the good Dr. there, and it could start it's European leg of the tour. Travel around there for a bit till it's done, then get it home again.

perhaps we should start by me sending you an email of what I'd do to your shoe (steady - I don't mean it like that!). Then, when your shoe gets back to the locale of your footsie you can draw it on for me?
saves $$$ all round then!

That's an idea! Do you mean send me a little drawing and email it? I could actually print it out on transfer paper and the iron it on and then put some sort of sealant to protect it.....that may be a way to go...

I send things to NY however its clothing but larger pack costs around £20-£30 However thats registered snail mail is a lot cheaper but the insurance is pricey for over £30!!!! Also there is taxes to be paid at your end on its return!!!
If it's gonna prove too expensive how about thinking of inventing some kind of taggy/accessory that could be attached on the laces (leather.canvas etc)- anyone could send you these form any country ha ha!!! Or even still your Uk buddies could doodle on a lace and do it that way -longshot but you could try incorporate the above for your dear folk that contirbute in a small way (the chuck won't travel but a necessity could be a postcard/doodles letter of origin enclosed with the taggie from the recipient with goes back and goes in with the logbook !!! - ha and a bit of photoshopping on the ole chuck at the persons house so photo's could still be staged - could call it 'chucks alter ego shoe in imaginary travel on the cheap'!!!!----- I think I am getting a little carried away

But I like all the alternative ideas floating around....I think they should be revisited once the shoes have finished the US/Canada tour!
doctorfoz
02-11-2009, 09:37 PM
what a rather excellent idea miLK. I like it especially because it means nobody's going to be sending me shoes straight away. My creative juices are waaaay low (winter blues among other things - I'm not in a happy place) and I just know that I'd be staring blankly at the shoe with no idea of what to do.
How about expanding (or contracting - you'll see why in a minute) on the laces idea. What if someone was sent a single lace and had an inch or so in which to let loose their creativity - and then forwarded the lace on to someone else, until it was full and then returned to the States. Or perhaps people could doodle on a section of a lace, cut it off and send that piece to whoever has the shoe. Then the bits could be sewn together to make one long super-lace?

No worries Urst. I'm sure my shoe is having a good time hanging out with ya.
One of the nice things about doing the quilting idea, it'll be a lot cheaper to mail a piece of fabric out, than a shoe box. 'Course, come the end of the project, when they all get stitched together, that could get expensive to send out a whole quilt to a person, or is everyone responsible for putting together their own?

Ooh, you could draw a cheek on Bladez other shoe. You know, tongue and cheek?
:D Just thinking out loud. Or thinking with my typing fingers, as it were.
Do shoes have cheeks?
Considering Tea has already had 1 of my shoes, it'd prolly be easier if Muse sent your shoe to Tea, that way, it gets some more work done on it too.
Or does it have more canadians to see?

LOL! I was just picturing Bladez literally shadow boxing with his shoes...yes, that's what happens to the mind when you're the daughter of someone who was a stunt man . . .
Cool, maybe you and Kittie and Garricks can put together a tutorial for those of us who can't sew. I wish I could, but the only time I've done major sewing was some curtains which I hemmed, and didn't measure BOTH windows, one of which was longer than the other . . . oops! I can hand sew, kinda sorta.

All this talk of things being thrown off a balcony makes me think of the Nationwide "Life Comes at You Fast" commercial where the woman across the street is arguing with her boyfriend and throwing stuff out the window (bowling ball, golf clubs, TV, couch) and it's all landing on someone's car. Unfortunately, the video's been pulled from YouTube. :(

Our liquor cabinet was never perpetually full though. We only buy enough alcohol to last for that night's festivities, and we invariably drink it all within that said evening. This is when it really starts getting fun, when they've been so many places we can't remember! Luckily I have a handy dandy notebook traveling with each of my shoes. I've also been saving all the posted photos, and would like to make some sort of presentation with all of it when they come home. I think it's really cool they've been on the road racking up the miles!
And, yeah, muse, even if your shoes didn't get added in with mine, you can still throw in a pair whenever! I'd love to see other shoes drifting out there.
Okay...the shoes were nearly dead from suffocation, but luckily I know foot to foot resuscitation. I'm not quite done with Tulip's but here's a couple photos to let you know they are still alive and well. (sounds like they've been kidnapped!) So...where are they going next? Wow, those shoes looks amazing!
Definately gonna have to shadow box them when we get them back Bladez. Maybe on a pedestal that rotates so you can see all sides or something? :)

DONE! :D *LOL*
Seriously tho, I am going to find a way to encase them. May just get some custom cut plexi and put together a nice display case for 'em
