Another creative idea from the collective minds on the GDF!
Last week I started drawing on my pair of Chucks, or getting other to draw on them, and the offer was made to send them to other members for graffiti. What a concept!!! This thread is to get people on board, and see who wants to play. All you need is a pair of shoes that you want signed (I suggest a pair of Chuck Taylors, as the canvas is a great...uh....canvas).
Now we need to figure out the best way to know who to mail to next. I'm thinking if after signing a shoe, and there's room for more, post a message as to who's shoe you've got and see who wants it next. Once it's full, the last person to fill it can mail it back to the original owner. Any better suggestions?
Understand, that if you're choosing to play, you'll have to pay shipping charges on the shoe that you're sending. Costs should be fairly low tho. You also run the risk of loosing a shoe, but just think of what your end result could be! A 1 of a kind GDF original shoe!
AMAZING!
I'm open to suggestions to make this more effective, so please, if you've got a better idea, let us know! This could be a great project, and a lot of fun!

<LOL!>
It turned out that someone had sold something to someone else and took a bit to long on shipping it out. So the buyer had PM'd the seller and complained and said "it's not like I am asking you to make a turkey sammich and send it!" So the seller made a turkey sammich and sent it out a week before he sent the actual item. Now the dumb sammich gets passed all around our community. :D

Yeay urst!
I'm really excited about the shoes now! I have to pick out a color. I'm thinking blue, but if they're too dark the art might not show well (unless everyone concentrates on the rubber part, or uses paint or another medium other than a sharpie, or it would be subtle, which also could be nice . . . hmmm). But I don't like too light of a color shoe because they make my feet look big! :p So I need to work this one out. Decisions decisions!
Bladez
09-19-2008, 07:57 AM
Go find a pair of red ones. They're light enough that a black sharpie will stand out nicely, but not light enough to make your head think your feet is big :)
Or, if you get black ones, that'll force people to use things like Gold and Silver paint pens!
tuliptree
09-20-2008, 06:59 PM
I tossed around the idea of black ones, but I have since located a pair just like the light purple ones I currently have and love, so I think I'll stick to my tried and true! I'll be picking them up next week after pay day so I can start my shoes on an epic adventure! :)

09-22-2008, 04:18 PM

hahaha, love the photo shoot there tulip!! I'm looking forward to getting it!
Now, for the rest that want to play, in order to keep peoples privacy I figured we should set some basic guidelines. Whether you decide to follow or not with your own shoes is up to you....
When you send out your shoe, be sure to include something in the package to identify who the rightful owner is. Perhaps a name tag that you can attach to the laces.
Final return address can be given to the last person who contributes to your shoe. Once they finish filling it, or can't find anyone else to add to it, they can pm the rightful owner in regards to getting the mailing address. I know I wouldn't want my address floating around out there in case some random intercepts my shoe.
Make sure anything they send in the package with the shoes (i.e. the sketch book that tulip mentioned) continues on the adventure. It'd be pretty disappointing if that didn't make it back.
If you want to include something for the recipient only (i.e. little note/letter etc), make sure it's got their name on it. Wouldn't want to send a private letter to person 'A' and end up having it passed around for person 'B' or 'C' to read.
Anyone have any better ideas or suggestions?

Are you guys just PM'ing each other the addresses then for the first two recipients of your shoes? Sorry, that part wasn't clear. I mean, have you and Typically PM'd your addresses to Tulip, for example?
And is there going to be a log kept somewhere by anyone of who's sent shoes to whom, as well as when a shoe returns to its owner in case someone else wants to step up, so there's no duplication or confusion? I'd be happy to try to help keep track of that, if you need someone to do that.
Bladez
09-30-2008, 03:23 AM
yea, we've just been PM'ing email addresses, and then email mailing addresses (just to keep as much off the net as possible).
We haven't discussed anyone keeping a log tho...Because who ever has the shoe will knows who it is, and whoever hasn't had it yet, can get in touch with said person to request the next chance to attack it with their sharpies. I'll be keeping track of whos shoes I've had, so I won't request the same pair twice. But if you have an idea to keep better track that'd be great! The more suggestions and input we can get, the better this will run :)
urstwile

And, Bladez, I'd like to take a second to say thanks so much for steering this project and ironing out the whole system to moving the shoes from person to person. Yeay for Bladez!
It's official, my shoes have parted ways and are traveling to opposite ends of the continent. I had to declare the contents of my package for customs to send to Canada, I was trying to control giggles as I was writing "pair of shoes", knowing there was only one in the box.
I may start one of those maps like in the GDF map thread, so we can add push pins roughly where the shoes are going.

i know tulips shoe is coming my way now and should be here in a day or two. is there an official list as to who's next or are we going to just post when we are done with the shoe and the first person that responds gets it??
tuliptree
10-01-2008, 09:17 PM
Yep! Gary, Bladez and I decided we were going to split the pairs up (it's up to the individual person who puts in a pair of shoes if they want to do that or keep theirs together as a unit obviously). Anyway, my shoes are currently in circulation, I just mailed one to Typically and one to Bladez yesterday. They will attack my shoes with sharpies and whatever else, and once done will post pictures of their work, and that will alert everyone that the shoes are ready and up for grabs. PM the person who has the shoes and that person will then get back in touch with whoever they will be sending them on to next.
Remember, we're keeping all addresses and contact info off the board, either send the info through PM or arrange to exchange email addresses to pass the info on.
We've also set up a locator map that I'll post up in a bit in this thread, so that when you get shoes to draw on or mail out, put a color coded pin on the map to show where the shoes have been.
So far Bladez and I have claimed green (Bladez) and light blue (Tulip) for the map. There's a think a total of 8 different colored pins we can use, so far we don't have that many people putting shoes in so were good for now.
Phew! I think that's all for now. Currently we're thinking we'll keep all information, photos, posts etc about everyone's shoes in this thread. If it starts getting crazy with participants, we'll go from there. And, we'll be calling urst for help organizing beyond what we've done! :)

"Why is there one shoe? Surely this must mean something! We need to look further into this. Oh crap, he's here to pick them up. Tell him something. Tell him we lost them. No, no, no. It's insured. That's not good. Tell him it's not sorted yet."

here's what led me to that conclusion: The guy in front of me, was sending a package to China. The post office chick asked "Did you want to send this Air or Ground?"
He looked at her and replied "It's going to China"
She just stared blankly at him until her co-worker said "It has to go air"
*sigh* I'm afraid of going back there tomorrow...

Just kidding, maybe Kittie's theory is more factual. ;) lol!

What a neat thread! I can't wait to see more updtes.
Why shoes? Wouldn't another article of clothing give you more room and lower shipping costs? And before we go off the deep end about how different uh, uhmm, garments having more/less room depending upon whose they are, how about a t-shirt? Just curious.
tuliptree
10-16-2008, 01:37 PM
In answer to your most excellent question, artistsdad, this is the conversation that started the whole thing (exerpt from the OM NOM NOM NOM thread):
Slow day at work, so I doodled on my shoe. I think this is how the rest of my day is gonna go:
http://homepage.mac.com/bladez/.Pictures/nomshoe.jpg
LOL, those are great Bladez! :D
Yes, Bladez, I think your shoes are possibly the best pair of shoes in existence right now!
Alas, now my little chuck taylors look like they are missing something! I keep looking at their poor little nom-less eyes! :p
*LOL* @ Tulip!
I suggest you nomify your shoes then! I've been getting people to draw on them for me now too. I wanna have the toes completely covered and all around the sides too. When they're done I'll have to share peoples graffiti with you kids.
I think my shoes could use a nomification.
Can't wait to see your shoes when they are finished. I've always loved the Chuck-Taylors-as-canvas school of thought! :)
i'll tag your shoe up if you wanna send it to jersey :D put a big fat YUM on it!
Can I mail you my smelly shoes? :p I'd love a Typically Yum on it! In fact wouldn't it be fun to mail shoes around and all of us autograph them in some way? It might be stinky and could get expensive, but what fun!
That's a wicked idea actually. I may go out and buy a pair of white chucks, just for that reason. Send one east and the other west and just let you guys do what you want. :D I freakin' love it!!
But then everyone has to pay to ship a shoe...Hmmm...that's not cool. I don't want to do something that's gonna cost people money....We'll see. who else would get in on this?
whatever man how much could it be to ship a shoe 4 or 5 bucks? i'm game it'd be cool to see how it turned out.
And the rest is history!
But you are right, anyone can jump on board with a t-shirt or what have you!
Bladez
10-16-2008, 06:45 PM
Oh yea, I forgot I was supposed to keep my shoe photos up to date. I'll get some shots of 'em with the current artwork and post 'em. And I'm sorry I haven't forwarded your shoe yet Tulip. I'll be back at my place next week and I can send 'em on from there.

well that's pretty bizarre. Did it look like it was leaking or stained or something?

Nope garricks, it looked all nicely wrapped and everything. She's not our normal mailman so I don't know if she wears rubber gloves every day or if boxes scare her. I just think it's humorous how the postal service has reacted to our boxes - rubber gloves, unsorted packages !!

By the way, I'm happy to report Bladez's shoe passed the sniff test, although since it was Guinness administering it, I'm not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing!

Can't it be both?
if it passed his test, it must be a good thing, because if a dogs sensitive nose can handle it, then yours will be fine ('course, they also like the smell of dead fish)

This must have all kicked off while I was out of town. I don't have any suitable shoes to join in. My converse are really bloody old and two colour corduroy, not canvas, but I'd be up for adding a little something to someone elses shoe. I think it's a sweet idea.
