I saw an ad on television for this the other day! It's taking place this weekend. They even have a website http://www.nationalalpacafarmdays.com/default.html.
It's kinda sad that there isn't as much NAFD support this year. Looks like 07 was a banner year though. Don't forget to check out their alpaca farm locator (http://www.nationalalpacafarmdays.com/farmlocator/index.asp). I don't mean to brag, but I could easily take in 5 or 6 alpaca farms this weekend.

Their server seems to not be working. It's probably swamped. Dang. I'll try later.
Do we have to bring a casserole?

Hmm, I could have sworn they were working but they goofed for me just now too. I added the /default after the home page. I'm not sure what's up with the locator though. It didn't work at first, but now that I repasted the address it worked for me again. If you can get to the homepage the locator link is in the top left navigation.

Alpacas are cool, I needle felted a teddy bear out of alpaca fleece, it's super soft and comes in very pretty natural colours.

I love alpaca fleece, but I'm allergic to it. I know it's supposed to not be allergenic, but I get that same headache and watery eyes I get with wool.
My cat is a pervert around alpaca fleece, too. I had a sweater once, and if I'd get it out, he'd immediately find it and do the piano thing with his paws and drool and bite it. I feared for his sanity! My mom then bought one of the wool teddy bears for our kids and he found it and carried it around all pervy.
Sorry to thread jack your thread with a pervy cat story Yoss. When I hear alpaca I immediately spew that story out, it's like a bad reflex.
But I love alpacas, they're really beautiful in a silly looking way.

How cool, there's 2 like 15 miles from me! I love Alpacas, so soft & furry. Funny kitty, Tulip, I always call that "piano thing" - "making bread". My girl kittie loves to make bread on my belly.

I love alpacas. I'd like to own a farm with alpacas when I retire. I actually saw an alpaca farm about 10 mins from my house.
"Playing piano", "Making bread" - my cat will lie on my back and give me a message when I'm lying down. Its nice... as long as the cieling fan doesn't go on then its like accupuncture!

"Playing piano"
"Making bread"
I call it kneading. Cats do it to when they are lonely, they also do it when they are younger and want to nurse. No joke! ;)

I know, isn't that hilarious? They all have issues, all of them! My cat, Leonard, who is the perv, was separated from his mom at 4 weeks! He thinks everyone is his mom, including alpaca teddy bears apparently. He also drags bras and underwear around the house at night, I'm not kidding. He goes fishing for them. I have to warn overnight guests, and half the time they don't believe us. Our one friend house sat for us years ago and we warned her, she didn't heed the warning, and the next day she called to tell us Leonard had fished through her suitcase and dragged her bra downstairs into the kitchen overnight.

Go Leonard!!!
I've always called it kneading too.
My cat will do that on nice soft blankets and pillows or stomachs. She's a crappy masseuse though. She won't do it to your back, just keeps poking you in the belly which can get uncomfortable.
A related behavior she exhibits is what I call "slicking." Any illustration board or poster board leaning against a wall will draw her in. She faces it then proceeds to slide her front paws down the board in alternating strokes. *slick-slick* *slick-slick* *slick-slick* on and on.

LOL, slicking, that's a good term.
Here's Leonard, I posted this in the pets thread a while back, but thought it's appropriate to place it here within this massive threadjack! :o (sorry yoss!!) Leonard is the troublemaker in the front. I call this old photo their "U2" portrait.
