I'm going to be creating a site for a small candy store. They would like to be able to accept online orders, but don't want a shopping cart, database and all that complicated stuff. They've already got a database in their store and would prefer to receive orders by email and process the orders in the store (make sense??). I've heard that there's a way to send secure emails. If this is the case, then I can theoretically create an order form where customers can submit their names, addresses and credit card numbers securely, right?

If this is the case, then do I create a form as usual and since the hosting is secure, when the email is sent, it will automatically be encrypted? Or is there a special way of programming the form?

I've never done it myself, but I believe your host has to support it. So you should check with them.

SSL will give you a secure link between the customer and the web server. You'll have a different url, something like https://.... probably.
But as far as I understand it that won't automatically help with emails. You can ask your email client to connect to your mail server with SSL I think, which implies that SSL technology can also be used for email transfer, but I don't know how to set that up. Sorry not to be more helpful - keep researching.
