We have just re-located our small agency into new office space, and have been blessed with a space dedicated as a graphic design room, for our designers and art directors to meet and work.
I am interested to hear anyone's suggestions on how we should utilize this space, what are some good ideas of items to put in the room, any links to good storage systems or wall boards would be appreciated. Any good sources for wall boards to manage projects?
Thanks in advance.

hammocks... to dream up ideas.
(It's Friday, so you are not going to get much out of me) I'll give you some more ideas if you get me a hammock.;)

You might need a really expensive cappuccino machine to balance that out. ;)

Get a bigger printer. If you're trying to utilize more space, printers are wonderful space hogs. Get a giant laser printer, a vector plotter, and if you still have space left over, maybe throw in a press. ;)

Something big to get ideas down quickly. Like 1 wall of whiteboard and 1 wall of chalk board and just let people play and go wild. Paper on the tables with jars of pens and crayons. Let creative people do creative things.

I love the MOMA store (http://www.momastore.org/museum/moma//CategoryDisplay_10451_10001_11461_11461_-1______Y). They have a lot of fun office space decorations and useful dodads. I bought their caterpillar business card and pen holder, and I also have their USB hub. it's always a conversational piece. :)

Instead of desks: ping pong tables. That way you'll always have enough room for your big ideas. I hate my dinky cubicle.

Agreed. Also, a place to pin up pieces to critique. We do this all the time.

Is this a 'war room' or does everyone have a desk in this room?
Having a wall to pin up comps, storyboards and approval layouts for clients to view is a good thing (thinking large format here but could work for smaller stuff). A white board is good. You can use engineers tape and vinyl lettering to create a custom grid for jobs but you also have to designate a person to keep up the info on it. We use an enamel steel white board and write on individual dry-erase magnets to move the info around where we need it. Post-its don't work so well.
If clients are invited into the space, keep it neat and uncluttered. Photos or tear sheets of former projects can be framed for the walls. Store your project files elsewhere. If you need to use the space for storage, consider flat files or filing systems that can go under a table or counter on an outer wall.
WiFi links or a wired hub is an essential. We also have a projector and screen and a widescreen plasma video monitor for meetings and presentations given by us, our clients, or our vendors.
Seriously consider a coffee maker and a small fridge with other drink options if you have clients in the space or work long hours together on projects.

I jacked a small stool from the brain storming room at work and put it under my desk to put my feet up on. I work MUCH smoother with my feet up. :)

No but very, very close. You guys wouldn't believe how cramped it is as my office. My boss is 6 inches from my right and my coworker is about 28 inches to my left. I have a radio, a server, a wastebasket under my desk, not mention varied and assorted surge protecters and routers. I kick something every time I sit down. If my boss is on the phone I can't get up because the phone cord is stretched behind me. sucks.

Holy crap, Pointhat! If you ever suddenly stop posting I'll just assume it's because you're locked up for flipping out on an officemate.

Pointy, what if you invest in some flatulence and some BO? Would your boss get a bigger office then?
Bad smells might be the way to go. Oh no wait, that didn't work for my coworker...

St. Inky's still there? I hadn't heard much from you about him. Guess you just grew accustomed? :(

Yup he's still here. I think I got accustomed to his lack of skills or I must have lowered my expectations a lot. Most days I just pretend he isn't here. The smell isn't so bad these days. I think it went away over winter but it's starting to come back again with the warmer weather.
