Hi,

I am currently working on a logo for an event, its for a St patrick's day parade for the town of huddersfield.

They wanted something quite fun and friendly looking. The shamrock was mentioned as something they are quite keen on using in the logo.

These are the ideas I chose to mock up in illustrator.

With idea 1 I was trying to incorporate the shamrock into the typography in someway

For idea 2 I have a used a silhouette of a famous landmark from the town (Victoria tower) to try and bring some sense of the towns heritage into the logo and used it as the stem for the shamrock. I also tried to use the 3 leaves of the shamrock to make it look like a head and two outstretched arms welcoming you.

For 3 I have used the shamrock leaves again but used the h as the stem, I am also hoping it can be seen as a person wth the h forming the torso and the legs in the position of someone doing irish dancing. Though that might be a bit if a stretch (no pun intended:D).

For 4 I started with a celtic knot and then tried to develop it into a person dancing, though I ended up changing it so much the whole starting point of the celtic knot is lost!! I have included an image showing how it got there as it is probably hard to see now.

So do any of them jump out at you of being the most successful, any advice or criticism will be greatly appreciated. It's the first logo I have done so am feeling a bit unsure of what I have done so far and whether I am going in the right direction.

thanks!

I really like 2B! I like the playful font used throughout (parades are supposed to be fun!) And I like the concept of bringing the town's landmark tower into the logo, and I really like how you combined the tower and the shamrock leaves. In 2b, both the town's name and the image of the tower/shamrock are strongest (compared to the other logos), which I feel combine to make a really cool logo.

I can't help disliking 2a a little bit because of the CooperBlack-esque font - that font has just always bothered me - possibly because of its widespread use in pirated video game labels and those iron-on DIY t-shirt letters. (just an opinion)

I like 3 a lot too! IT also has a playful font, and a neat way of turning the "h" into a shamrock, and the town's name is very strong. But I think 2b might be more effective as it incorporates the town landmark.

Hope this helps! :)

Thanks for that Miaow, I was leaning towards 2B aswell.

Anyone else got any advice or criticism?

i'm liking #3 and 1, but with some tweaks. try 3 with the h the correct size, or closer to it and maybe with the type below it in a serif or sans serif, maybe all caps. the top one is playful, but i think the main font choice is off.

have you thought of doing a seal or something? those are always popular, and you could put the shamrock in the middle.

At first I thought you meant one of these!

But yeah I will try that, thanks for the suggestion(s).

3:Tried making the h smaller.

4:Tried a few new font combinations and also the idea of a shamrock growing out of the tower.

5:Also tried the idea of the tower being a smiling face as it was looking a bit ominous, though it looks a bit gimmicky. What do people think?

I should probably show it to the client so I can focus on one or two.

The first image seems to take ages to load, I made it smaller so if a moderator read this could you put this one there instead, would be great thanks.

Pinksta, I don't know if you have read over the rules of the board, but you cannot be putting links like that multiple times to spam your site. You are linking within an image and that is not allowed. I am going to edit your post. Please read THIS THREAD (http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39878)

by the way, I also realized this might be caused by imageshack, if that is the case please re upload the images to another host and I will replace your images accordingly.

thank you.

I like really number 3, especially with the darker green. I am picturing this on a banner to lead the parade, and was thinking the florescent green would have been hard to read with the sun glaring off of it.

I'm not quite so keen on the tower being the stem of the shamrock. I didn't read your full explanation at first and the image didn't make sense. I was thinking it looked like a tree.
