Ok two questions that pertain to the web images.

1) Why is it when I make an image jpg in photoshop it gets darker?

2) Also how could I make my images so that it takes into account the diffferent monitor screen settings when people view a site. What i mean is that some monitors are brighter/darker than others. So how could I make my images so they don't appear too dark or too bright on most people's monitors?

1) I'm not sure. What settings are your using in the Save For Web dialog?

2) You can't. If it looks good on your monitor you can assume that most will view it fine. I would'nt think there are many that have thier monitors so bright or dark that it would totally screw up your image.

(1) It may be the color management settings in Photoshop.

(2) You can calibrate your monitor to get as close as possible to standard settings. As Ryan says, this won't mean your image looks perfect on all monitors because most people don't calibrate their monitors. But it can make sure your monitor is not way off in one direction. Some monitors come with a calibration utility included. You can also use the resulting monitor profile as the basis of your Photoshop color management settings. This is what I did, although I've also noticed that as a result Photoshop shows things slightly brighter than other apps, and I'm not sure why that is.

In addition to this my advice is to test your images on a variety of computers to get an idea of the range of results.
