Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw...you wanna stay with a vector program so that you can scale up and down when you need to and it will still be crisp and sharp.

I'd say PSP8 because it has alot of options available but then again I've never tried Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw.

Yep, Illustrator or Corel Draw...actually Macromedia Freehand is ok too, but Illustrator is definately first choice. No one should create a logo or brand in a raster program.

why would anyone use anything but illustrator or corel or freehand? c'mon people....it's like building a house without a hammer and nails.
MS Paint hands down.
These pro artist don't know what there talking about. My Grandmother did a bang up job using MS Paint. It even lets you pick your own colors, com on now who can beat that.

Ok, lets just take out the whole microSUCK family of software!?
If you take everything out you'll be left with about 3 Mac and 4 Linx boxes, with a ton of incompatible software and you know Apple won't be able to meet demand for all the folks that want a working box.
Heck they can't even make enought little music boxes what makes you think they can make enough PCs.

nah .... bill gates = selfish entrepeneur
can you imagine how good microsoft products would be if they had half the dedication that macromedia does with upgrading their products? then they would truely be the best ... only then ....
With that said. I just want to know one thing.
Apple makes some dam good software, Mac OSX, Final Cut Pro, Shake, Logic etc. So why can't they sell more computers, why. What the hell is wrong with them?

799 for an emac isn't two much. 999 for one with a superdrive is even better. There really is no excuse.

I agree, besides, isn't our motto (as designers) 'you get what you pay for'? Macs seem to have a lot less problems than PCs. The only thing that I have a problem with in the Mac world is convenience. I don't like to wait a week for something I need today. :-/
i think there are a lot of people who view macs negitively..
im a total PC Person.. Just bought my 1st mac in Jan and i luff it! But i cant leave PC.. So i will forever have BOTH! :/ lol
i think people just dont wanna change.. only reason i got a mac was for the GD Stuff..

yeah ... i think apple has a long way to go as far as consumer trust. the new os rocks, but apple in general has a bad rep from the old crappy os. of course, the reason osx rocks is because it's based off the unix os which has everything to do with it's increased stability.
i have a pc and mac, and don't know what i'd do without both. as a graphic designer nowadays you have to be able to work in both platforms. all of my print work is done on the mac, and my web work is done on the pc (my programmer works with a pc, so it reduces problems).

I was a PC user for years, and I still own one, but after switching to mac for gd and web I can't stand getting back on my pc. The processing is just so different, and my pc (which is fairly new) want's to crash or really bog down. I am sold on the mac, and give them free word of mouth advertising every chance I get. I think they need to make their products a bit more available to the consumer if they wish to grab a wider market. I couldn't believe how many people I talked to that had never even seen one! PC is great for business platforms and gaming (many more options) but that's about it. I have a young son, and he just loves the computer, the minute he got on the PC he had deleted a system file and we had to reformat. I just love that he can't even find that stuff on the mac....the most he's managed to screw up is my email /emoticons/smile.gif

yeah...that's why we created separate profiles on our pc .... each one has different levels of permissions. the mac i use is a work horse ... and runs smoothly too. but still prefer the pc for basic tasks like email and especially word processing. that is what most people do on a computer anyway so a mac would not be the best choice. gaming is big market now too.
yeah all my games i play on the pc i think thats ALL i do on my pc anymore since i got the mac lol

It's a 10-meg fileso download may take a while, but it's funny stuff. (I always prefer to right-click and save as; the status bar is my friend!) Seems to be best viewed with the latest version of Quicktime.
Honestly now that I'm doing more then web design (PHP?) I really prefer the mac. It comes with Apache installed and PHP so you can run back end programs all on one machine without having to upload to a server cause Apache serves the pages. This is a BIG ASS PLUS I never even knew about on the mac. Now I can say Mac web, Mac Print and Mac everything!

I use both Mac and PC...I like em both. The first computer I was ever on was a Mac. Hey I used the Mac for 10 years before I even touched a PC..honestly! The PC was the MOST foreign thing to me ever until about 2 years ago. I have a Mac at work and a PC at home. Being able to cross platform is important when you get the rediculous stuff I get from 'wanna be designers' haha! You gotta know how to get their crap up on the screen somehow..LOL!! I think it all boils down to personal preferance.
Benjo...if ya buy an eMac and the monitor blows...what do you do? You have spent $799 for a computer with a built in monitor and the monitor is dead? That has always been something I have thought about when it comes to eMacs and iMacs. We have 4 eMacs where I work...I picked them out and got the bossman to order them. I just hope I am gone when the monitors blow...ROFL! $799 is VERY affordable for what you get with an eMac...but..you take the risk of the monitor dying out and then your up a creek bc its an all in one right?? Of course that's the same for any all in one PC too. My bossman just bought himself an all in one Gateway (why o why didn't he get a friggin Dell but whatever..LOL)!! Anyways...I was just curious what you thought about that bc I know you have an iMac right now. :o)

Yeah, that seemed to be a somewhat common problem too (monitors blowing) but I have yet so actually meet anyone that it's happened to. I checked into it a little before I bought my eMac, and it's not that bad ($$) to get replaced. The problem is thinking about not having my baby around for a week is what kills me /emoticons/smile.gif

How 'bout a pencil? You shouldn't really start designing a logo in an application... after that, definitely Illustrator or another vector program. Don't listen to those folks who say Photoshop... waste of time, IMHO, for logo work!

I have an Imac Snow white 600Mhz. Lets just put it this way I was running OS 9/OSX 10.0 when I got it. I'm on OSX 10.3 and it's still working like a charm. I do my entire freelance on it. Although I'm going to be getting a new system in the next few months. I'll just load this one up with Games and give it to my daughter she's 3. So about the monitor blowing... lets just say that it's a pessimistic thought cause this thing is not gonna blow.

Yeah so basically you will end up getting a new one before it blows anyways because it will be time to upgrade by then right? So it all works out and is affordable too! I serisouly considered getting an eMac awhile ago. I would be so happy to have both a Mac and a PC on my desk at home...LOL! Ahh that would be cool :o) I will someday fullfill my dreams...LOL ;o)
