So, here it is, two in the morning and I'm waiting on a friend to bring some taquitos. I got lazy and decided against going out tonight. Plus, I'm broke, which brings me to one of the reasons I've decided to jump in here: my future in design. The gist of it goes a bit like this: About ten years ago now I attended a small design school; the instructors liked my worked and said I had a real shot at doing something professionally. I aced the classes but when it came to my final portfolio review I never completed it, missed the deadline and all the rest of it. It was as if I never finished/graduated. I've worked odd jobs since and still dream of a design life, only now, I can't afford anymore schooling and have no real experience and can't just walk into some slick firm and say, "Look at this, I'm awesome!" When do I start?" So, I feel I'm doomed. I really can't start freelancing either, as, once again, I'm broke. I can maybe do a business card here and a tri-fold there, but can't live on those alone. Anyway, I'm going to get back to doing nothing. :(

Hi haunts. I had to look up the term "taquitos" because I'd never heard of that before. I'm glad I did.

As for finding work, you need to put together a portfolio however you can and then apply for jobs. Start small. Even I wouldn't walk into an agency and say "Hire me". Agencies aren't the only places designers work in.
