Hi everyone, hope your having a Happy New Year!

My question is: How do I make a symmetrical pattern?
I've already figured out how to create a seamless pattern, but the surprise at the end of the day was that the pattern didnt match on either side.

What I'm working on has two parts. A piece of paper with a pattern as a base, and another piece of paper that will go on top with some text. I have some snapshots here to give you a rough idea.

As you can see, each end of the pattern tile is different and it looks awkward. I want the whole thing to be symmetrical. How do I do this?

Thanks!

Well, of course it's not going to be symmetrical... You're chopping the art you want to keep right in half! :p

Try scaling it down. Also, since the paper is square it would be easier to work with a square 'shape' to make up the pattern. I hope that makes sense...

There is a thread we linked on how to do this I'm sure someone will find it. Search for tiled background or something. You'll have to do the work yourself.

How about cutting it in half and reflecting? I'll try that.

Here's a tutorial on how to do it manually. (http://www.designspongeonline.com/2008/05/welcome-julia-and-how-to-make-a-repeat-pattern.html) So you would just grab 1 of the illustrations and work on it like that.

Thanks Buda, I'm keeping the link for that.

I actually just reflected everything.

usually when making a tile I make a repeat pattern over 4 squares then chop a 5th square out of it at the center and use that as the actual tile.
