A question for printers and production artists...how many jobs are typically coming in as Quark projects vs. InDesign jobs? This isn't about which is better, I just want to know if its anywhere near 50/50.

In wide format, not even close to 50/50. More like 98InD/2Q
Designers hate to do math and Quark kept their silly itty bitty little artboard far too long. Designers doing large stuff have to do less scaling if using InDesign. :D
That said, a few still use it here and there for smaller exhibit work, but rarely now. I haven't even had to crack open Q8 and only loaded Q7 two months ago.
We are a wholesale printer so we deal with a lot of small copy shops and print brokers. Most everything is pdf ... but the majority of the native files we get are still quark. I think that has something to do with the customer base though. Lots of older print shops still use quark because of familiarity with the program and the years of files they have.

We ask for pdf files, but I would say 1 in every 50 clients are still using Quark.
I work at an offset printers dealing with runs of 500-20,000 and we also have a digital copy centre attached to us.
I would imagine that magazines might use Quark more?

1 Quark job for every 50 Indesign jobs. We stopped support at 6.52
for Mac and 4.1 for Windows, but this has only been because of client
demand. Since Quark 7 came out I've had to walk one client through
PDF generation, so people out here that we print for are not using it.
It seems that only large operations stick with Quark these days, because
it would be too much trouble retraining employees, and they have so much
as legacy artwork at this point. Converting is just too hard for them. I will
say though that when I receive PDF files made by Quark users, they
generally work as expected. Probably 4 to 1 over the InDesign layouts
I receive. Read those tea leafs as you will ;)

Bananas and custard. I'd say the majority of our customers don't have clue! We get all sorts aside from these, usually 'press ready' (ROFL) PDF's. I'd say 90 - 10% indy.
