Hi, I am new to the forum! I am trying to create billboard art in InDesign however, when I go to set up the document, it will only let me make it 216 inches long and I need it to be 576 inches. Is there something I am missing? Do I need to be setting it up smaller? Please help. I have to have these boards finished by tomorrow (Tues.) Thanks so much and I am so glad I have found you!:)

(Merged to avoid confusion.)
Basically, you work at 50% or 25%, depending on what the billboard manufacturer wants. You should call them to get specs.
Print Driver should be along soon and can explain better, he's the grande format guru around here. In the meantime you could do a forum search for "billboard."

Wow, thanks so much...I have felt so alone in this world with no one out there to answer my design questions and now I have a whole new outlook on things. I just hope I am able to provide helpful information to someone else.

Welcome! There's lots of good advice and other stuff here.
When you have a moment, check out these threads (http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=42)...They contain most of the information you need to get started at GDF. ;)

Depending upon what the printer asks for, it is generally 1"=1'... but confirm with the printer first.
*IF* this is true then your 14' x 48' billboard would be designed at 14" x 48", at whatever DPI the printer tells you to work at.

You really need to call the guy doing the printing.
He'll give you a scale and a resolution to work in.
You do work in scale, for billboards tho, it is usually 1:10 probably @300dpi so your 576" w graphic is built at 57.6" PLUS BLEED.
It's a lot easier to work at 1:10 than it is to work at 1" =1'. Much less math.
But you really need to CALL!
You need to know how much bleed to add, especially if this is a bungee wrapped piece.
<you scale the bleed too>
Use your measurement palette to align corners and edges. In 1:10 scale a 1/16" misalignment is a nearly 5/8" at full size.

If you ask the printer nicely, I bet they even have a pre-made template in the size you need... :)
