Hi
I'm working with a body of text (myriad pro - size 12) and every time I go to rotate it just -20 degrees, it all goes wobbly.
I've tried converting the text to outline, changing the font and it still does it - even in InDesign :(
Does anyone know why this is and what I can do to prevent it?
Thanks!
Wobbly?
It could just be a display issue, how does it look when you print it out?

It looks fine on my computer...can you post a screen grab for us?

I've viewed it on another machine and it's the same!
When I take the size up to 72 it's fine, but on 11/12, it just isn't happy..... :(

...i couldn't upload it without having to really reduce it, but you can still make out the wobblyness of it :(

Try printing it. You are trying to tip small type on a 72dpi monitor device..

Post a bigger issue. As fun as a word 'wobbly' is, it isn't very descriptive. Are you using the normal text box?

here's another example then. wobbly or what?!
you can actually SEE the text wobbling about when you rotate it slowly, and even the lines on the text box get uneven as well.
i've tried it with snap to point turned on and off.. no difference.
it just doesn't make any sense!
AHHHHH!

oh - and this is in Illustrator - I'm just typing using the Type Tool and then rotating it by dragging it.
i've also tried rotating it by using the rotate tool (i.e. - not dragging the text), still no good :(
Is it only this font that is doing it or are all fonts doing it. I just tried it and mine looks pixelated (this is the word you are looking for) on the screen but prints out fine.

nope - it's doing it with all fonts :(

Anti-aliasing turned off perhaps?

Do you have any transparency near this text (over, under or yes ... near it?)

hello again - no - anti-alliasing is turned on and no - there are no transparencies.
can i ask, what happens to everyone else when at 100% view, they type some text in 12pt myriad pro and then rotate it to about 20 degrees?
is this just something that can't be done in Illustrator? Surely not?.....

As Garricks showed in Post 3 it's fine (it's fine for me as well ...)

When I type in text using Myriad at 12 pt., yes it does 'wobble' onscreen. That's just how it's displaying on the monitor at the relatively small size.

When I print it, it looks entirely normal and straight. There's no reason it shouldn't be, so I don't know what's going on.

Maybe force the issue and have pre-rotated lines then use put the text on the lines with the type on path tool?

I also noticed in the original post that even when converted to outlines it's wobbly ... which shouldn't happen at all.

Did it just start doing this? What kind of printer are you using?

i've just tried it - on a PC. 12pt Myriad Pro, 100% viewing, rotated 20 degrees (manually and by using 'transform'). I'm afraid that on my laptop screen 12pt is just too small to see any anti-aliasing problems but when I zoom right in the text is as sharp as anything.
If it still does it when you convert to outlines, it's not a font problem.

What version of Illustrator are you using? Is it possible it's one of those versions where you had to input the output resolution to get good results (that'd make it really old, so it's a long shot).

just to answer all of your questions...i'm using CS3, my prinnter's a new HP....
but even if it DID print out straight, this is to be used in my porfolio online, so how on EARTH, do people manage to rotate business cards etc at an angle and keep their text straight looking?
any ideas?
PS - thanks SO MUCH to you all so far - what a great community :)

If it is an online portfolio you would convert to web and the "wobbliness" wouldn't (shouldn't) show up.
Have you tried viewing it at 200%? Convert it to pdf or any other file type?
weetabix

yep - i've converted it to a pdf and it still shows up - that was my initial problem.
i designed the artwork in Illustrator, then took it across (wobbly) into InDesign and then created a PDF to be viewed on screen - wobbly all over :(
it's still wobbly at 200% :(
and still wobbly when saved for web :(
how would YOU save a rotated business card for web? would you have the problems I'm having?....

Have you tried trashing your pref files?
