I'm in my last semester of college. I'm planning to buy the CS4 Suite "student edition" while I can still get the $1300 discount. I was just curious, does anyone know if I'll later be able to buy the regular upgrades when I want to go to CS5 or whatever comes out next?

I don't think so, but it would prolly be good to check when you buy it.

To the best of my knowledge, you should be able to buy the regular upgrade. If you're no longer a student, you'll have to pay the non-discounted upgrade price.
But don't just trust me, here's what Adobe has to say (http://www.adobe.com/uk/education/purchasing/faq.html).

For some reason, the UK version of those FAQs are the only ones that [barely] work on the Adobe site. And those are the UK rules.
There does not seem to be a link on the Adobe site for North American upgrade rules. Last I heard, it's like Urst said, you can only buy one student license for a product but you used to be able to upgrade later for the regular upgrade price.
Someone could call Adobe in their spare time....

I think I misread this question. I would think you can upgrade at the normal upgrade price not discounted. What Urst said :D

back in the day i had Photoshop 5.5 Educational Version and i WAS NOT able to purchase any upgrade. I had to buy the next full version again at the student discount.
I don't know if that's change since then.

I had the CS student version in Canada and was able to purchase the upgrade at the regular price to go to CS2 if I wanted a few years back.

You can't upgrade student versions. Or rather, as you say, you have to buy the new full version at student rates. Why you'd want to do that is beyond me. But once you are no longer a student you have to pay the full upgrade charge.

That's that's all I'm asking. I know I won't be able to upgrade at student prices. I'm just wondering if I'll be able to buy an UPGRADE later (at regular non-student prices) instead of having to buy the whole thing again.
It seems as if some of you have been able to do that in the past, but I haven't found anything definitive in print yet.
I'm going to buy it either way, because I can get the CS4 suite for $350. That's really worth whether I can upgrade it or not (but I THINK I can).
Thanks for the replies!

Ok, actually, according to that link, I can definitely upgrade later. Thanks a lot!

Are you in the UK?
No, the U.S.
oh, I see......... the link was from the UK site. Hmmmm, ok well still no definitive answer. Maybe I'll just email Adobe and ask.
EDIT* Ok, I found this on the U.S. site:
You may purchase regular upgrades to Education products you already own even after you no longer qualify as an Education customer (for example, students who graduate or instructors who leave the teaching profession).
