ID "print book" crashes everytime

I've got a 100-page project in InDesign CS4 comprised of 18 documents organized into one book. I'm trying to print off a dummy of thumbnails of the page spreads for the whole project but ID crashes every single time. I can print the pages of the book individually just fine and I can print up to 2 chapters together, but everything else I've tried crashes. Tried printing thumbnails without doing them as spreads and that won't work either.

If there's not a workable solution for this, does anyone have other suggestions on printing a 100-page pagination dummy?

does it need to be in one book altogether for indexing? or can you just separate it back into it's 18 chapters and print out each from there?

Print the book to PDF and use the booklet printing feature of Acrobat to print the spreads as thumbs.

Is this the first time your printing it? If so, it might be a corrupt image in the file that is causing you headaches...
