hanging punctuation in photoshop

while using photoshop cs3 today i had the urge to turn on hanging punctuation. so i went into the paragraph palette only to find that it was grayed out. does anyone know what could be preventing me from using it? i'm working with a basic block of adobe garamond.

i've worked around the issue and gotten the effect that i want anyway, but it would be easier just to be able to turn on hanging punctuation in the future so any help is appreciated!

I'm gonna guess that instead of having your type set up as a block (or paragraph) of text (as in dragging out a type area marquee), you've got it set up as line text (as in just clicked once with the type tool).

yep, that's exactly what it was *sheepish grin* i don't do blocks of text in photoshop much so i was clueless.
