What methods do you guys use for re-sizing your logo's?
I was playing with a logo design on an A4 Artboard; the smaller font was Arial at 24pt. When i scaled down by 50% the Arial text, it looked really untidy!?! I dread to think what it would look like if i scaled it down for a business card!?!

I always start by creating the logo actual size to make sure it works, then convert any text to paths (text sometimes looks odd if it's still editable, maybe that's the problem).

24pt text on an A4 size page taken down to a business card size is only 6pt type (more or less)
Tooooo small for the average human to read on a BC. And maybe too small to legibly print on some BC process printers...specially if knocked out.
PrintDriver is a grande format digital print dude. His advice/opinions may not apply to the 4color/offset/web world of printing

beanz, what program are you using to create your logos?
Another point: sometimes in reduction works like Business card you can change the scale of some fonts (only in reduction and only the fonts) to make the logo works anyway.

I'm using AI 10.
I suppose changing the scale is an option, but i'd rather have it scalable if it's possible!?!

What i don't understand is why it looks bad with just a 50% reduction!?! Arial should look okay at 12pt surely!?!
Do you guy's use pixel fonts on business cards, for the small text? I've yet to find a pixel font that i think looks good, but maybe i'm looking at the wrong fonts lol!?!

Would you create the logo at the smallest size it would be used first, then scale upwards?
Thanks for the replies everyone! http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/emoticons/thumbsup.gif

I usually just start from business card size and then scale it upwards (but I've done it using the same method as you before and I've never encountered a problem).
Have you got a stroke applied to the text?

No stroke, but i didn't convert to paths... Maybe that's the reason!?!
